and lets say you even manage to make it illegal to buy the components of the ammunition. no big deal there either. it isnt hard to make the case, cast the bullets, make the primers, or make the powder. lead is cheap by the way. where there is a will, there is a way. that said however, criminals likely wont be reloading their own rounds as they dont have the patience to do so. same with rampage killers.
As a kid, I use to find enough tire weights around the outside of the tire shop, to make as many slugs as I wanted.

The military style assault weapons all use what's known as "intermediate cartridge" which are designed for automatic, self-loading firearms. There have been ASW bans, but they were ineffective. The banned/restricted ammunitions also have an effect of dwindling inventory over time. Of course banning is banning civilian use, military use would be unaffected. The second amendment did not mention what types of firearms and/or ammunitions, it's hard to argue right infringement.

Here's list of "intermediate cartridges", aka "service cartridges" in the world:

5.45×39mm cartridge of the AK-74 assault rifle
5.56×45mm NATO cartridge of the M16 assault rifle
5.8×42mm cartridge of the QBZ-95 assault rifle
7.62×39mm cartridge of the AK-47 assault rifle
7.62×45mm cartridge of the vz. 52 semi-automatic rifle
7.92×33mm Kurz cartridge of the Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermediate_cartridge
You missed a few... But hey, lists make you look smart.

Anyone with any real weapons knowledge can see right through this foolishness.

Ban or no...I can still 3d print a fully automatic weapon of mass distruction assault rifle with a flip up thingy and 3,000 round belt fed clip, magazines firing 1 million rounds per minute of super-hyper sonic cop killing, armour piercing, incindiary, explosive, self guiding super death bullets designed for schools all by downloading the plans from the elite headquarters of the diabolical group known as the NRA, whose headquarters is a hidden lair deep beneath a smoldering volacono surrounded by a moat with deadly alligators and sharks with freaking lasers.
