Or rather legalization saves people billions while avoiding more harmful pharmaceutical drugs.
Given that most Americans support legalization I think it's safe to say that pharma lobbyists and politicians willing to take their money are the only things stopping it now.
"Just one US state legalizing cannabis can cost the pharmaceutical sector nearly $10 billion."
"Another recent survey, published in the Journal of Pain, found that around 80% of the adult cannabis consumers surveyed had used cannabis as a substitute for some kind of pharmaceutical drug, most commonly opioid painkillers. When asked for their reasons behind this substitution, the majority of respondents felt that cannabis had fewer adverse effects than the pharmaceutical equivalents, while still successfully managing symptoms"
on one hand, pharmaceutical companies are life saving and noble with their wonderful vaccines, shots, and push to have mandatory shots. on the other hand, they are evil, greedy, pill pushers shrouded in secrecy accountable to only wall street.

Yes, many things are shades of gray rather than black and white.
Much of the opioid crisis can be attributed to Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family's greed.

Even after the shenanigans of Purdue, Pfizer is still the most criminal of the pharma companies in terms of fines. They were even threatened with not being able to sell their drugs to Medicare/Medicaid but the FDA relented: saying Pfizer was too big to fail.
Anyways, pigs are flying somewhere, because me and you agree. Legalize!
Well this legalized pot has created a new group of monopolies that are ruling over that industry.
3 big companies rule over legalized cannabis throughout the states.

Part of why Ohio voted it down last time was that it would have established regional monopolies in the state constitution. Even pro-legalization folks opposed that.
True legalization means you can grow it in your back yard.
With that being said, and not really on topic ... as a proponent of marijuana being legal, I no longer feel as strongly about it as I did. This is no longer your mom's pot ... or your grandfather's for that matter.
Big pharma can just horizontally, and vertically integrate marijuana into their companies. How hard can be?
Big wall street companies have pretty much a monopoly on just about everything from tomatoes, potatoes to toilet paper. And you can grow your own tomatoes and potatoes too.
Just start another brand that specializes in marijuana production or retail. Most people too lazy to grow their own bud anyways.

They will benefit from it in the long run with the uptick of lung cancer. Smoking pot is no better for your lungs than tobacco. And smoking it is the primary form of usage. So, it's a win for big pharma and the medical cabal.
The irony is that most big leftist potheads absolutely HATE people who smoke tobacco because they are "killing themselves." What we have here is the same denial the general public had in the mid 1960s when it came out that tobacco smoking was not the most healthy thing in the world. Pot will be in the same boat in a few years.
