Lincoln always seems to be number one in various polls.

America

Quote:
Whenever academics and scholars tickle their fancy by putting forth yet another poll of historians on presidential rankings, there is little doubt about which president will top the list—Abraham Lincoln. In the numerous such polls executed since Arthur M. Schlesinger Sr. pioneered the genre in 1948 for Life magazine, Lincoln has come out as number one in nearly all of them. Of the seven surveys I pulled together for my 2012 book on the subject, Where They Stand, the Illinois rail-splitter was judged the nation’s greatest president in six of them. In the seventh (a 2005 Wall Street Journal poll), George Washington came out on top, with Lincoln in second place. (Franklin Roosevelt almost always occupies the number three slot.)

I don't think anyone actually knows Abraham Lincoln, so we are left to someone's opinion about who is best... Problem is, it's just someone's opinion and not even reflective of any real substance...

Lincoln was a hardcore racist, white supremacist, war criminal, and likely mentally ill, and responsible for the deaths of more Americans than all other presidents combined. Total piece of crap.

“Great president. Most people don’t even know he was a Republican,” Trump said while addressing attendees at the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner. “Does anyone know? Lot of people don’t know that.”

He can't be the best since his election caused the immediate secession of states and the break up of the Union, a civil war, 600,000 casualties the most in any war America was in, and a chaotic reconstruction. On the bright side, he did end slavery and save the union and did it in a manner not as bad as some were wanting to go about it. But I don't think all the former were necessary to arrive at the end of slavery sooner rather than later. So over all I'd say he was for his time at best a middling rank President.

He was absolutely a racist and possibly a narcissist. Look into the Native American land grabs that occurred during his administration, in addition to the fact that he sought to censor the press.

Sadly, it seems that none of the negative things he did are commonly taught in schools.

Actually that was normal in White settlement areas around the world, just like my country Australia then too, with the forced land grabs from the native people. It was a different time and era. 21st century morality does not apply to the 19th century.

You think Trump is bad, they said Lincoln only slept about 2 hours a night, but did like his nap.

Invaded southern states to prevent legal secession, got 600k Americans killed and violated the rights of US citizens. Worst president in history.

Secession is not legal.

Lincoln was elected President of the U.S.A. Putting down an illegal rebellion in the U.S.A. is not invading.

Confederates started the war and are responsible for all the terrible loss of lives.
