Great, Mueller got Manafort, someone the DOJ should have caught years ago. Maybe he'll end up getting someone for conspiring with Russia re the election. So far, zip on that.
Just be patient
The wheels of justice grind slowly---but they grind...
And the investigation is still gaining traction
Gates taking a plea deal is epic
Van der Zwaan pleading guilty and going to JAIL is epic
Why---his FIL is a BILLIONAIRE
He has access to all the money he would want to fight it---
Obviously he knows he would lose and have more serious punishment

The question re both men is what have they told Mueller about OTHER members in this conspiracy---
And it was a conspiracy based on multiple levels--tax fraud, money laundering, selling political influence, and very, very possibly conspiring to act with foreign interests to affect the US election...
And it happened not just on the presidential level but on state elections as well---

And the same thing is still going to happen in 2018 because social media platforms and election agencies are doing nothing to prevent it...

There's a recent C-D post that speculates it's related to the Mueller investigation because Rod Rosenstein delivered the recent news(about a delay in Kusher's clearance) to the WH instead of Sessions. Sessions would typically deliver such news, but he's recused from the Russia investigation.

Rosenstein recently flagged issues about Kushner's clearance - NY Daily News

White House alerted 2 weeks ago to ongoing issues in Jared Kushner's security clearance - Chicago Tribune

It's more like over-zealous prosecution of nobody's to justify a witch hunt against a possible counter-investigation, before inevitably backing off, if for no other reason that they lack the political capital to effectively indict anyone of any significance.

Having anti-Trump people on he investigatory team has consequences. One of those is an inability to be of any effective threat.

When this investigation started, did all Dem voters get an free ebook on bad prose and metaphors or something? The failed attempts at legal romanticism are endemic on this board alone.

C'mon, give me another one... I'll give you some words for improv. Kay, ready?

Train, steam, coal, the American frontier. Go!

How about this...

Bricks, mortar, sweat, hard work, and freedom from chains. Go!

I don't know where you think Mueller is getting his indictments---from the Good Humor truck parked on the Mall???
He is getting indictments from grand juries...one in DC and one in Virginia
Grand Juries use very responsible, respectable residents of a particular location who are not chosen based on their "political capital"....they aren't there because they are related to anyone in government or because they paid someone for the appointment or because they are lobbyists who can buy a Congressman's vote...

They have heard plenty of evidence from Mueller and his team of attorneys and researchers and decided the evidence sustains the charges...and everyone charged but Manafort has plead guilty---most in a plead deal and one apparently chose a (very likey) reduced prison sentence w/o a plea deal So he could serve it quickly and leave the country to be with his wife in London...
These is nothing in this that comes from "political capital" you are correct about that---
It comes from overwhelming physical evidence of wrongdoing...
This is the Federal justice system at work

When Mueller is ready to supoena Trump to appear before a Grand Jury to give testimony regarding his dealings with Manafort or Gates or anyone else Trump is going to have a VERY difficult time avoiding that summons---because Presidents have already been called and testified...
There is no precedent for Trump to escape that legal requirement if the action in question happened prior to the time he was inaugurated president---
Trump thinks he has the "political capital" to avoid indictment because he thinks he is omniscient
He should think again

His attorneys have told him what he wants to hear in an effort to keep him for doing more damage to his case than they can remedy----but telling Trump what he wants to hear may not be a very accurate or successful legal defense...

And I think Trump's political capital is likely to be used up as Mueller's case draws the noose of exposure tighter around his neck and his family's complicit behavior...
It is becoming more and more clear that some in the GOP are getting out of Congress so they don't have to run again and try to justify some of the more questionable aspects of Trump's actions---they are taking their bounteous campaign chests and linking away...

That's because we have a president and probably several GOP legislators who are deep in Putin's pocket. When that castle crumbles around them, they are all going to be caught inside it.

New info re Gates and van der Zwaan
Mueller Tells Court Paul Manafort Partner Rick Gates Knew They Were Dealing With ex-Russian Intelligence Agent
This came out in last night court filing
Apparently Van der Zwaan was very obstructive when testifying and had a reason to be...
Lot of skullduggery going on with Manafort, Gates, him, and others...Russians, of all things...

Remember he is son in law of Russian oligarch w/close ties to Putin and shady character in his own right...sounds like Van der Zwaan should be getting charged with more than he is...
He is not taking a plea deal---the judge will determine his sentence and sounds like Mueller would like it to be pretty stiff...
