No- as an Independent I know what will happen. Some of the ranking Republicans and Fox and Friends will whisper in his ear that the NRA provided in excess of $30MM to his campaign, and their support is vital for the party, yadda-yadda, and Trump will slowly walk back this stance.
Just like he did with DACA.
He's a creature of expediency and lives the moment. He's politically stupid.
He is the king of hot takes. Trump has never been a conservative and really likes to go against the grain just to do it. My guess is a few republicans or the NRA told him what his positions are gonna be on guns, and he’s flipping them the bird. He not the type of person that likes being told what to do.
By Friday he’ll forget this meeting ever happened.

Yuuge chasm.
To be fair, only one of those is generally defended by the right, and it's certainly not the constitution aside from the second amendment.
I'm all for gun restrictions and here is an example of one of the few times I agree with Trump. I do not agree with taking away and thinking about due process later though. He just doesn't get it--the way things work, that there are legalities and rights. He's used to just doing whatever he wants.
There ARE legalities-a process by which individuals are "adjudicated mentally defective" and are banned from purchasing firearms. It has been the law since 1968.
This'll be good. That is, if the Trumpistas have the cojones to even comment on it, which is rather doubtful.
Can you possibly imagine the mental gymnastics going on right with all of the apologists now trying to find a way to continue supporting one of the few politicians who has ever actually grabbed the third rail?
That was the most incredible statement I have ever heard come from a president's mouth, nor do I expect to live long enough to hear its equal. It demonstrates conclusively that the "Kids" in Florida are still firmly in control of the gun conversation in the United States, and the GOP is running in terror.

Yes but it it has only a partial set of dentures.
Printz Vs. United States effectively neutered the NICS effectiveness of capturing the data required to dragnet those individuals.
In fact it was about that time I lost faith in the NRA.
Oh sure, if he's serious about stricter gun control, congressional Ds will help him out.
But love him? He's completely untrustworthy. Sooner or later, he'll start throwing us under the bus again, right where he eventually throws everyone. Not exactly a lovable trait.
I also haven't lost hope that before he exits the presidency, he will make common cause with Ds on health care.
