The odds do matter because it proves that all this uproar is not based in logic and facts and attention, time, and resources are being wasted on this discussion. And I have not ever received training on how to escape getting shot at work or had to plan an escape route. Nor do I need to. More evidence that logic and facts are not being used.
In your opinion, it is a waste. But not for countless thousands who will continue to devote attention time and resources to this issue.
The odds DO matter. Focusing on something so rare only proves you don't care about saving lives you care about pushing your agenda. If saving lives was your goal there are a thousand other things you could focus on that would save more lives. You'd save 10x as many lives banning school sports than you'll save banning what you call 'assault weapons'.
You are trotting out this argument because it suits YOUR agenda. People are ill equipped to assess risk and that is true regardless of political party. Conservatives have the same issue, for example all the hysteria around transgender people in public bathrooms. So why do you care so much if it is such a tiny percentage of people affected?
Oh Berteau, don't you understand?!? Logic, facts, and reasoning have no place in many of these people's perceptions of life. There are simply a whole lot of people out there who live in fear, and because of this fear they allow scare tactics and fear-mongering to dictate their lives and how they feel about everything from guns to fast food. Logic and reasoning have no bearing on anything for these people because fear and panic won't allow them to see reason.

What are the odds of being killed in America with an automatic weapon and what are the odds of dying by cancer, car wrecks, heart disease, etc.... ALOT more people are killed by normal guns. My point is that way too much attention and effort is being put towards something that probably isn't even a top 100 cause of death in America. Why!!??

I think they want to deflect from the real reason these events happen. I have one question for all those students marching to the capitals to get guns banned. Have you ever been rude, condescending, made fun of, thrown off on, etc. anyone you see on a daily basis? Do you consider yourself better than any of your classmates. If so, you need to change your attitude before you start taking away the rights of others. I have noticed most shooters are a product of rejection and social isolation.
The odds are so low as to be almost zero. However, the odds are far greater for being killed in a vehicle or by a knife. We do need to fine tune some of our laws or regulation.
Just review how many have been killed in the past yr with an assault rifle...so many rounds in such a short time period allows more to be murdered than if using a pistol.
Kids are SCARED TO ATTEND SCHOOL....focus on that.
