The (D)'s are total idiots. Morons of the top level. They have the perfect opportunity here but will go for divisiveness as they still believe that is how to win.

If I was in charge.....I would say, fine, you say it isn't guns but mental illness that is the problem, let's address that. And to address that we need comprehensive health care for all.

Run with that and they have a real platform to stand on.

That would be a start. Better would be to raise the age to drive to 21, if we were serious about saving lives. But face it-none of this is about saving lives. It's about bottom feeders using dead children to push a political agenda. And a president that seems to have lost his spine.

Gun control is a lose-lose for Trump. If he sells out the American people and goes along with this-it's not like any Democrats will actually switch their votes to him (or Republicans) in 2020. At the same time, many (perhaps most)conservatives will drop him like a hot potato, most likely sitting out the election (and perhaps 2018). Sad considering that up to this point he's been on track.

I'm snap replying to this, so maybe someone has said this before but in case not.

The ATF will not ban bump stocks, even if Trump orders them to. Why? They do not have the authority.

The ATF basically enforces the National Firearms Act and it's amendments. The NFA has very specific definitions of that the ATF can and cannot regulate. It can regulate the sale of fully automatic weapons. It cannot regulate the sale of semi-automatic weapons. The former is defined in the NFA as a weapon that can fire multiple shots with one pull of the trigger. The latter is defined as weapon that fires one shot with one pull of the trigger.

What bump stock does is assist the shoot with speeding up his ability to pull the trigger of the weapon, by channeling the weapon's recoil into his trigger finger, causing it to slap the trigger faster. It' does NOT change the trigger mechanism to make the gun fire more than one shot per trigger pull. This being the case, the ATF would not be authorized to restrict sales or ownership of bump stocks.

In order to implement such a ban at the federal level, congress would have to vote to amend the NFA to allow the ATF to do so.

That's all he really wants anyway. He loves to watch his shows.

It appears any ban by the ATF on bump stocks may not stand so what would you offer in return for banning bump stocks through Congressional actions?
The american people have offered up their dead children to the gun lobby since Columbine. You get nothing more.

Trump said he'll support stronger gun control one day, the next day he said he'll support federal funding to training teachers on how to use guns....that's his idea of gun control. It's all lip service and in the end the NRA owns his balls and those of Pence.

Think of all the anti gun people jumping on this bandwagon. If something isn't done and done they way they think it should be , do you really think any of them will vote R ?

You know whatever comes out of the White House on this will never be enough for the anti gun crowd, so count their votes out.

I really think the GOP, Conservatism and firearms rights are in jeopardy right now.
Why do you think they're trying to raise the voting age? They know young people don't like them. Just like the Congressmen who are willing to give DREAMERS a path to citizenship but not let them vote for 15+ years. They've **** all over people so now they have to ensure it can't come back an bite them at the ballot box.

Combine that with his willingness to compromise and offer amnesty to criminal aliens and I have to wonder how many law abiding Americans are turning against him? Is it true he actually is a Democrat in conservative garb?

Looking back to 1992. GHWB had agreed to sweeping new gun restrictions, as well as abandoned his no new taxes pledge. These two acts cost him the election and saddled us with the sexual-assaulter in chief. I have to wonder if Trump's sellout on conservative issues won't do the same.
He's not actually a conservative or Republican. He has flip flopped parties at least 5 times. All he really cares about is himself and he happened to exploit the Republican party by pandering to their issues. Just look through his history and you'll find quotes of him supporting gun control, abortion, etc. All just because he wanted his brand talked about more. Didn't even really expect to win himself.

And they should raise the voting age, with the exceptions of those in the Military.
