First lady Melania Trump tacitly lent support to the young people who have emerged as activists for gun control legislation following the school shooting last week at a high school in Florida that left 17 people dead.
“I have been heartened to see children across this country using their voices to speak out and try to create change,” Mrs. Trump said at the top of remarks at a White House luncheon she hosted for the spouses of the nation’s governors. “They are our future and they deserve a voice.”

Personally, I'm surprised that more Trump fans haven't applauded the First Lady's comments today. The same with Ivanka's comments in South Korea that she isn't certain that arming school teachers is a good idea.
It is great to see both of them are expressing their own thoughts on this.
Actually, I also think that it is good that the President is talking about this issue too. I'd be happier if he could tone down the accusational rhetoric, but it is clear that he is taking this seriously, and that is good to see and hear.
For instance, he did a good job today of bringing up some important issues:
I have a lot of mixed feelings about gun control. I have many close relatives who are responsible gun owners (and NRA members), but I agree with what the President said today about needing to make changes, especially legislative ones.
In fact, I am starting to think that the gun issue might be a way for Trump to show true leadership if he follows through on some of the things he's discussed. This is never going to be an issue that is resolved in a way that will satisfy everyone, but it is a discussion we need to have as a Country, and I like that Trump appears to be taking that on.
So, there, I said something positive about the President too.
Of course, I'm not "on the left" nor even a Democrat, so maybe it doesn't count.
I don't think her comments were meant to be taken the way some are seeing it. I think, what she is saying, is like most of us are saying, we have sympathy for those kids and understand their. This isn't the same as agreeing with them on gun control.

Even if she wasn't voicing support for gun control, what she said was kind and encouraging. At least she wasn't calling them out as "crisis actors" or criticizing them for speaking out, like so many others have done.

So you don't think her statement about "creating change" was about creating change? Hmmm.
