As a hard right winger I oppose the death penalty for any reason.

It achieves nothing and LWOP is worse. Imagine being caged never to be let out.

So you claim. Show some facts to back it up.

The fact is you have no idea how common this barbaric brutality is or is not. You have no idea at all of what it is like to live in a society that allows this brutality either.

Ask yourself this question: Why does only Saudi Arabia cut the hands off thieves? Do any of the other Muslim nations do the same? How much does this punishment cut down the thievery there?

Stuff like this always sounds so simple. Execution for a fact is never simple. It never has been a simple matter and never will be. If you ever got your simple-minded wish, you would not love the life it gave you. Terror is never fun to live with.

It wasn't a good deterrent. That's sorta where the argument breaks down.

After reading this thread, I think it just shows just how bad the mental health situation in america is! Some VERY disturbed folks here. Of course it's mostly the same folks who are into the " arm everybody" crowd too.
Take it with a grain of salt though- I highly doubt any of the barbaric ones here have the stones to see death up close; especially gruesome ones.
Just more hollow hubris from the 101st Chairborne Division! Probably soil themselves and grab their AR-15 if a mouse ran across the floor

It has certainly deterred certain crimes in some countries.

Seems to me most mass shooters do not expect to survive.

Sounds great until you realize that when we execute a innocent man, that recording will be available. People will hold it up and point to it why the death penalty is bad.

Plus...those who do the crime the OP is discussing...some of them WANT that attention.

This essentially condemns a thief to a much worse death than the quick death afforded to a murderer.

With a missing hand and no welfare, the theft conviction would be readily visible and no one would hire them.

With no welfare, they turn to theft again in order to survive. Schving! Off goes their other hand.

And so they're left to slowly starve to death over weeks, while the mass murderer is taken out in seconds.
