Too many people recognize that "gun control" isn't so much about guns, as it is about control.

So it's getting time for the liberals to change what they call it again, while not changing what is actually is. Never mind that every scheme they propose, has already been tried and found to fail; and yet they keep proposing the same schemes year after year. Clearly, reducing crimes, violence, gun deaths etc. isn't their goal, or they would give up on their failed schemes and try some that actually work for a change.

Maybe if they call it "gun reform" instead, they can fool more people into believing they don't mean to disarm the American people.

Yeah, that oughta do it. Sounds innocent enough. It ought to keep us going and faking people out. Just as calling ourselves "progressives" after they found what "liberals" really were, did.

Where would the liberals be if they couldn't keep changing what they call their schemes and fooling people into believing they are changing what they actually intend?

NYMag: Don't Say

New York Mag: Don’t Say ‘Gun Control’ So We Don’t Scare Americans With The Truth

By Daniel Lee
March 2, 2018

A piece in New York Magazine last weekend pressed the case for abandoning the term “gun control” in favor of the less frightening “gun reform.” Writer Benjamin Hart calls the former an “unhelpful phrase.” He says it “has long been the default for well-meaning citizens who want to curb the killings that are a fact of American life. But it’s well past time to retire it and come up with something more effective.”

Doing so is necessary, he says, because “Republicans have long understood the power of language more intuitively than Democrats … they have helped frame abortions as ‘pro-life,’ tarred Obamacare with talk of ‘death panels,’ transformed the estate tax into the ‘death tax,’ and so on. The NRA is equally adept at this trick – most famously with ‘Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.’”

Considering it was the Left that re-framed abortion as “choice” and “health insurance” as “health care,” and introduced the notion that we have to “pay for” tax cuts, this is extremely rich.

Nowadays the liberals have their hands full, of course. It's all they can do to make people think they are "liberals" or "progressives", instead of the socialists they are.

Add to that the burden of persuading the Supreme Court that the Obamacare mandate is a "tax", not a penalty as the bill itself calls it. This after swearing up and down to the Democrat Congressmen that it was a penalty, not a tax, so they would vote for it at all.

It's not easy being a liberal. Especially when more and more people realize you don't tell the truth.

Less ironic than merely factual. Every government on Earth enforces its laws, policies etc. with punishment. It is literally the only thing government is capable of.

People who expect government to "do good" are relying on the good nature of the people in government.

Which works as far as it goes... but government tends to populate itself with people who are not good-natured.

Which is why government must be far more heavily restricted than its citizens.

Actual NY Mag article encouraging the Ministry of Truth to rename Gun Control with some other title that people haven't yet figured out still leads to confiscation:

'Gun Control' Has Outlived Its Usefulness

‘Gun Control’ Has Outlived Its Usefulness

By Benjamin Hart

Thanks in large part to the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, green shoots of optimism are sprouting amid the rocky terrain of America’s gun debate.

But as liberals see real reason for hope, many are still wrapping their policy aims in an unhelpful phrase: “gun control.” This term has long been the default for well-meaning citizens who want to curb the killings that are a fact of American life. But it’s well past time to retire it and come up with something more effective.

From the link:
“It can be argued that the United States’ bedrock cultural individualism is the wellspring of the country’s history of innovation,” he concedes. “But it has also been a persistent obstacle to the kind of comfortable, regulated lifestyle that is the norm in many other developed nations.”

I don't want a lifestyle deemed "regulated" by others. I am one of those inconvenient and problematic American citizens who refuse to be 1984'd. There are tens of millions more just like me. And guns are only one small (but integral) part of that equation.

Damned cultural individualism..............

They forget all about the: bear arms,(comma) shall not be infringed, parts

Yes, it is my gun choice... Not theirs.

I think too many people have forgotten that we have a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. Its NOT at all patriotic to OBEY and be subservient to a tyrannical authority.

I see this more and more, another thread, someone actually suggested that we need to start teaching our kids to obey better!! How about instead teaching them their individual rights as US citizens and let them decide if they should obey or not.

I cannot remember the exact phrase, but Aristotle said something like "A man cannot be a good moral person AND a good model citizen at the same time.

The Arrogance of the Leftists strikes once again - "change" the name of Gun Control and we can "fool" them into accepting Gun Control. They are nothing is not predictable.

Oh yes, those "students" with their "green shoots" that will finally-finally-finally bring Gun Control to Citizens for the Leftists. Praise whomever you like to "praise to".

The Parkland Teens Fighting For Gun Control Have The Backing Of These Huge Organizing Groups |buzzfeed

Several large progressive organizations, donors, and a high-powered public relations firm are backing the March for Our Lives movement, which is quickly evolving from a student-run social media effort to end gun violence into one backed by some of the most influential activists in the country.

In the days after the shooting in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people, the teenage survivors of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were impossible to ignore. They blanketed cable news coverage, built a massive following on social media, and began to organize a rally in the country's capital in support of gun reform.

Since then, major players and organizations — including Everytown, Giffords, Move On, and Women’s March LA — told BuzzFeed News they are helping with logistics, strategy, and planning for next month’s March for Our Lives rally and beyond. Much of the specific resources the groups are providing to the Parkland students remains unclear — as is the full list of supporting organizations — but there are broad outlines.

Name a Left Wing Social Justice Activist Organization ...... and they are behind these kids with their MONEY and their Media. That would include the Teacher Unions that are "organizing" buses to get the little darlings out of school and into Anti-Gun Marches. On the UP side for the kiddos - they are raking in Millions of dollars and becoming Rock Starts to the Lapdog Media and the Leftists.

So-called "conservatives" are every bit as socialist as "progressives." They just cloak it in words like "patriotism" and "family values."

Tell me, when is the last time a GOP Congress or President has cut spending or abolished a federal agency? I'll be waiting...
