The major exceptions are places like Houston and Dallas where there are a lot of good oil and gas jobs combined with affordable housing.
The other thing is that people that work the good jobs meaning high salary usually want to live near places with cool stuff to do.

This is why a lot of tech companies started opening offices right in San Francisco while before they were more focused in the Silicon Valley suburb areas .. but those areas weren’t really where their workers wanted to live.

There are new tech spots opening up in other cities but most of the venture funding for tech is all based in Silicon Valley .

Many conservatives live in California.

But that couldn't be it, right? I heard that the State now checks voter registration cards at the border

San Francisco is in trouble with getting teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters . . . heck, cashiers and waiters, to be able to afford to live anywhere nearby. In San Francisco Unified, 64% of a teacher's income would have to be spent on rent to live there. In San Diego Unified, only 24% of income is necessary to spend on rent - - and San Diego is no cheap place. The affordable apartments that are being built in San Francisco are for these types of jobs.

There will never be enough affordable housing to meet demand though . Not in SF , not in L.A

Politicians are always talking about affordable housing because they know everyone wants it so it’s the carrot that keeps people voting for them .

There are not that many people making that much for the entire metro. There has to be LOTS of outside money coming in.

FWIW the GA house in a post above. That town is not near any city. Good luck on employment. Metro Atlanta (Ya know where you can get a job) homes are considerably higher.
