The city, not Obama, wants to widen some streets and create 4-5 underpasses to accommodate what it perceives as a revitalization of the area.
George Lucas intended to build a Star Wars Museum in Chicago on what is now a parking lot. After years of wrangling with the city and especially “ open air” advocates and assorted crazy people, he pulled the plug. Instead the $1 billion museum is being built in LA.
I sincerely wish the foundation would pull the plug and relocate to a nearby suburb that would welcome the development or even Honolulu.

It is interesting to hear about defense of ghetto arguments. Rural America is filled full of empty housing stock. It is inevitable that people moving into cities that have jobs will increase housing demand and drive up housing and rental prices.

This is exactly what is occuring in many ghetto neighborhoods in desirable cities. People are moving in, starting businesses, hiring, and creating a demand for new shops. Rents will go up.
Unemployed will be forced to get a job or forced to move to cheaper place.

I totally agree with Obama on this . An area needs higher income people so that it can support decent businesses . Gentrification pretty much always means lower violent crime for an area which is a big plus .
We should let the market work things out and not make the number one priority keeping poor people in a neighborhood. People need to move to the neighborhood they can afford if they are renters .
