Will it hurt me directly? Not really. My 401(k) took a hit once he Tweeted about the tariffs. I'm retired so I just won't buy any new cars (but our auto industry is so robust! They can take the hit of less sales. ). Cost of anything steel or aluminum based will go up, so appliances, beer, soda, etc.
Housing prices will go up for steel frames (we have hurricane requirements), so Hawaii's already very expensive market (got 750K for a median home?) will go up.
So. Americans should have to make sacrifices for the good of our workers and industries. Americans need to learn how to fight for something for a change.
If it costs us more at the register, then too bad.
Trump is out there on the left (alongside Bernie, et al..) on his trade protectionism. Trump wants to tinker with free trade. He is wrong with that thought.
"Protecting" relatively few jobs while creating tension between trading partners, raising prices, etc.... is the wrong thing to do. It does not have the intended effect far too often. How did those Carrier jobs in Indiana, vice Mexico work out?
Well, that makes Trump, 3 unnamed attendees, and you in favor; and; the rest of his staff, advisers, and Congress against.

I'm not afraid of tariffs or a trade war. America should do something about trade deficits and unfair trade practices, and losing our industries, jobs, tax base and running up debt. I don't believe these trade deficits help consumers, at least not enough to offset losses in other areas mentioned. The one-way free trade most help foreign countries, corporations by offsetting loss onto the public.
Unfortunately, our oligarchs and their enablers disagree with you.

There’s no “free trade” where we’re concerned. We’re getting jerked. The Europeans would never allow their nations to be bytchslapped like this in the name of “free trade.”

You can do that , but you can't make stainless when you run out of nickel, and we don't mine anywhere near enough bauxite to supply our aluminum needs.
Other than those inconvenient little facts, it's a super idea, but we get it cheaper than we can produce it. If we produce all we need here the price of consumer goods will go through the roof.
Again, Canada will be hurt the worst, and I believe our trading is pretty well balanced with them.
I love Canada, but my sympathies lie with Americans only.
