The SCOTUS never even touched the second amendment in the 90's during that AWB. Banning the most popular small caliber rifle in America is not going to pass any test of constitutionality.
So..you think popularity is relevant, in a discussion of constitutionality?
" on the sale of AR-15 assault rifles" Anybody who knows anything about guns KNOWS the AR is NOT an "assault" rifle.Cosmetics do NOT change what a rifle is and isn't.
I do know..which is why you will note that I use the term, 'assault-style' rifles. However..the bolded was a quote..so I had to go with it.
I wonder though..as to why you think the distinction relevant?
Note to the newbie..not all semi-auto's are assault-style weapons. You should know full well that the weapons under discussion are those that imitate the military grade weapons in look and feel. Despite some ingenuous statements, they are not hunting weapons.
Perhaps you might look at the round fired? .223 is not a deer hunting round.
So banning something that has been available to the public since the 60's , even thru the '94 AWB, because it looks and feels like something else is not dumb to you ?
What are you talking about. Scott made all sorts of proposals after he convened people from both sides of the political spectrum. Some of them made sense, others were questionable, but he is putting a quarter of a billion into school safety with practical & pragmatic actions.
Funny how liberals, even when they get some things they wouldn't expect from a (R) still are clamoring for getting hard left wingers to replace moderate (R's). Scott has opposed drilling of FL's shores and told Trump in no uncertain terms to keep FL out of his plans in that regard. Yet the libs still immediately attack him for not "going far enough" and want someone hard left..
Scott has bought his job both times. Look at his fraudulent past with Medicare. It’s all about the money.

Military grade assault style weapons...lmao
The .223 can be a fine deer round if you load it properly. You can go up to a 90 grain bullet if you have a twist rate that will stabilize it. You can also fit up to an 80 grainer in a standard AR clone magazine well.
Do you understand how bans work? Or should I say, how they don't? We've got a ban in CA and we are still buying the EXACT firearms with some silly gimmicks to get around the useless law.
Is that really what you want? A ban that doesn't actually ban anything? It doesn't remove existing. It doesn't stop anyone from selling AR clone semi autos. Go look at a Turners ad for California. Yep, AR-15 clones for sale on the front page here in a State with an "assault weapons" ban.
I bought these "military grade" "assault weapons" all through the Federal ban from 94-04. They simply renamed or slightly changed how they look. It doesn't change the function of any of them. Plus, it doesn't change the fact that they are simply a little Ruger ranch rifle with some "scary" parts added to them.
If you take the stickers off a Corvette does it make it slower? The mirrors?
Well...that's your take. Mine? To even list the NRA in the same breath as the Constitution is a sick joke.
Acting on emotion..after 17 children have been killed..is not a bad thing.
I doubt that the constitutionality of the law even passed their minds--the thought of losing all that NRA money certainly did. Assault-style weapons have been banned before..and they passed the Constitutional test with no problem.
BTW..when did it ever get in your head that only Liberals feel the need to do something? The gist of your comments seem to be that mass shootings are just the cost of doing business..and that your version of the 2nd amendment must be watered with the blood of innocents. It seems too high a price to pay for you to own your penis substitute..without some controls--controls that have been instituted in the past..and have been found to be constitutional.
You and your ilk do not get to define what is, and what is not, Constitutional..that is left to the SCOTUS...and they have clearly ruled that reasonable controls on weapons do not violate the 2nd.
I'm a gun-owning supporter of the 2nd amendment..and nobodies idea of a Liberal..or at least what a liberal is today.
Your use of the phrase "penis substitute" belies your claim in bolded as likely BS.
And "Assault Style" weapons were never banned.
The "assault weapons ban" was meaningless....all it did was ban certain features like adjustable stocks and pistol grips....

Despite what we have been taught, we are STILL judging books by their covers.
One would think a bunch of adults would use more common sense, its fairly ridiculous to ban something just because it LOOKS like something else...Is that not the dumbest thing you have ever heard? LOL
There are very strict laws on drugs, distribution and possession, but at the same time, numerous cities and states have major heroin epidemics, so why would similar laws on certain guns be any different? If criminal organizations can CONSISTENTLY get enough drugs to their destination (enough to cause numerous epidemics), I doubt tough gun laws would be a hurdle.

Lol, yeah, a lot of people dont know squat about how a firearm ban works while preserving the 2A.
I dont know how you and others can continue to have conversations/debate with ignorant gun grabbers and still an IQ left.

Living in CA you get used to the fruits and nuts. It actually becomes a sport after a while and quite entertaining to see how they try and out stupid each other. Something like half the States have created some type of definition called "assault weapon". It's so idiotic that in some states a shotgun or any rifle with a detachable mag is called that. And the morons gobble it up.

Uhh..it would appear that you missed an important word in my post..imitates. Imitates military grade assault weapons--so those with compensation issues can pretend they are bad-azz soldiers--number 1 reason folks opt for the AR-15. So they can feel the testosterone buzz. I get that most can't admit it--but it's true.
Again..ingenuous about the hunting--if you have to modify it--sure..you can hunt anything with anything..but..as a life-long hunter..the AR-15 is not a hunting rifle..simple as that. You can kill a deer with a .22 also--even though it's illegal in many states--do you contend that the .22 long is a deer hunting round?
I live in Idaho..gun central--and I've yet to find one serious hunter that prefers an AR-15 over a .30/.30 or a .306---knock-down power alone is usually the deciding point.
