Carjacking has been a huge problem in Chicago... 682 in 2016... almost 1,000 in 2017. The feds are now getting involved.

2 Chicago teens face stiff federal carjacking charges: 'We are coming for you,' FBI boss warns

Two teens accused of a violent carjacking in November are the first to face stiff federal charges as part of a collaborative effort between Chicago police and federal authorities to curb a surge of carjackings in recent months.

...
Although not directly related, the charges come a month after Chicago police and federal authorities announced the formation of a new task force meant to more aggressively work to arrest and prosecute carjackers, including using federal charges where appropriate.

"We're not playing around," Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said in announcing the task force Feb 4. "If they want to continue to go out there and take the easy path to taking someone's vehicle, then we are going to take that (federal) path to punish them to the fullest extent of the law that we can."

Last month...

Chicago police to meet with federal, state officials to combat rise in carjackings

He noted Celinez Nunez, the special agent in charge of the Chicago Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, was instrumental in putting the task force together. In addition to the ATF, the FBI and federal prosecutors plan on being involved. The task force could also examine the flow of guns being used in some of the carjackings.

Federal agencies will help Chicago police and suburban police departments identify patterns and trends to combat the rise of carjackings, Johnson said.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the help from federal authorities and Illinois State Police also could mean additional resources, such as helicopters, to track down robbers.

Actually he sent federal agents to help combat gun violence in June of last year.

Interestingly

Quote:
After the deadliest year in two decades, the first half of 2017 seemed just as grim in Chicago as homicides remained devastatingly high, raising fears that the “spike” in violence had become a new normal for the city.

Then in the second half of the year, homicides plummeted, particularly in two of the city’s most violence-plagued neighborhoods, contributing to about a 15 percent overall drop in killings over last year.
Chicago's homicide total drops by over 100, but violence still 'intolerably high' - Chicago Tribune

That's how it works... send in a Repub to fix the Dem problems that Rahm, Daley, Obama, etc, didn't have the slightest clue how to fix. All this crime in a gun-free city, too! Imagine that!

Could they help with West Palm Beach? You know the town down the street from Maralago? The violent crime rate there is equivalent to Chicago. And Trump could coordinate and check on progress every weekend in the winter.

FBI? Trump hates the FBI. If they are getting anything done, its despite of Trump, not because of him.

What Republican?

Rahm asked and Trump sent 20 incremental agents to help track down interstate gun trafficking.

Rahm hired a new Superintendent and hired 1100 new Police Officers.

No idea why you think Chicago is gun- free. That guns cannot be legally bought/ sold in the city does not mean the city is a gun free zone. Easy enough to legally buy a gun in Indiana or many suburbs.

Most gun homicides occur in 5/25 Police Districts and it’s reasonable to assume nearly everyone in these neighborhoods is armed, legal and otherwise.
