How Rex Tillerson Wrecked the State Department
By Dexter Filkins

His tenure may well be regarded as the most consequential in postwar American history: not for what he built but for what he destroyed.
In only ten months, Tillerson, the former C.E.O. of ExxonMobil, has presided over the near-dismantling of America’s diplomatic corps, chasing out hundreds of State Department employees and scaling back the country’s engagement with the world. Most alarming has been the departure of dozens of the foreign service’s most senior officials—men and women who had spent their careers living and working abroad, who speak several languages, and who are experts in their fields.

AllGov - Departments

Quote:
The US Department of State functions as the diplomatic wing of the federal government, handling matters of foreign affairs with other nations and international bodies. The State Department's primary job is to promote American foreign policy throughout the world.
17 years of uninterrupted war/s, along with sanctions and bombing to countries who have done nothing to us, I'd say the State Dept. has been a failure for some time now.
You could say the world would be a safer place without it all.

Don't confuse the State Department with the Defense Department. And don't confuse a bad department with a bad president. I'm not sure that anyone could have stopped GWB, for instance.

Im not, they are all complicit.
The state dept of the president you skipped over () was involved in the bombing of 7 countries and thats just off the top of my head. How was that for diplomacy?
Unlike you and your ilk, I am consistent and don't give any of them a break from their crimes.

The US State Department has been a bloated cow for some time. The waste is massive and blatant.

Yes. Better we should pay for Trump's jaunts to Mar a Lago and golf trips.

With Kushner meeting with foreign officials sans Tillerson, is Kushner the de facto Secretary of State?

Since no one answered this, I assume those people chose to leave.

What does have to do with Tillerson? He didn't shove a gun in their ribs in give them an ultimatum... those people chose to leave.

Obviously this administration is different. That may be good or bad - we will see over time. But don't blame Tillerson because people chose to leave.
