Please don't kid yourself, this was as much about Trump as it was Saccone.

I agree with you; however, I'll add the following:
-with the Trump brand as toxic as it is and his approval rating so low (nationwide), it has become increasingly difficult for the GOP to recruit good candidates. The opposite is true for the Democrats...tons and tons of people coming out of the grassroots that want to run.

All of the above only makes the Democrats chances better in the fall.

And yes, Lamb was a good candidate: decent looking, military service, kind of boring and most of all decent and normal. Saccone was a lifelong politician and proud to be "trump before there was trump" which is where your point comes in. Very hard to see this district going to the Dems if it was a President Romney.

and in the real world, people see that the Alabama repubs ran a poor candidate, and the dems won with a MODERATE candidate..... just like the potus election, the libs ran a poor candidate and she lost

Not necessarily. It depends on the candidates.
