Nobody thought Obama deserved it and even his supporters laughed it off as a joke.
Personally, I can't complain about drastically lowered standards of once prestigious awards. One of my posts here on C-D won me a Pulitzer Prize.
Because if you get a prize or any type of public kuddos , unless you committed a crime or something terrible. you as the judge later disagree -you shut it. So again I question their integrity in their choosing. They didn’t do their homework ? Do they know what they are doing. Maybe not - obviously. Makes them look wishy washy.
Of course Geir Lundestad regrets. He is a wise man and not a politician. Most Norwegians were deeply embarrassed in 2009. It was the former Norwegian PM, Torbjørn Jagland, and other politicians that gave the prize to Obama just as an excuse to bring him to Norway. I blame Jagland. He has been a joke since the 90s. He failed as the Prime Minister, then as party leader, Foreign Secretary and finally as the Nobel commitee leader.

Secretary clarified publicly that they didn't regret the peace prize -- they regret they didn't get the outcome they wanted from it.
Which most definitely states to me the reaosns behind the award had little to do with the whole peace thing and more about trying to make a statement.
If that's whta they want to do with it -- that's their choice -- it isn't a public prize -- it's a private committee but it does kind of make it a joke.
Which many Obama supporters and others thought at the time.
Sure there are those that will blindly defend Obama getting it -- because that happens when people choose a team.
That is a succinct, and accurate summary. Fortunately, he was so lazy, and inept that he kept himself busy doing Democrat fund raisers, campaigning, and playing golf.
And it further cemented the fact that Obama lacked any kind of humility. Nothing but arrogance and hubris.
