I think it is okay to pay for sex.

What do I think of them? I won't date them, but I understand why some men had to pay for sex.

To me, it is not a legal issue, nor is it a moral issue.

If you're a rare person for whom "sex is just sex," it's not a problem. Hiring a hooker, for you, will be similar to hiring a chef. He'll feed you, you'll no longer be hungry, and that's that.

For many of us, (especially women) sex is not just sex. (And that's probably not just due to societal indoctrination. There's likely a genetic component to it, too.) It's symbolic for all sorts of aspects of our lives.

So I think it depends on individuals. I don't judge either way.

I'll say my piece, since so many people are commenting about it.

Prostitution should be legal, for many of the same reasons we should legalize pot, although it should be regulated in the name of public health and to protect the people selling their bodies, plus protect the prostitutes from exploitation and physical abuse.

As for personal moral issues, if it's between two consenting adults and the above conditions are met, then go for it; as long as it doesn't detrimentally affect others.

Speaking of generalizations, there's a lot of shades of gray being ignored. Men paying for sex at some point in their life is not the same as using prostitutes regularly for their whole lives. I'm pretty sure that most men who have paid for sex at some point in their lives have also had traditional sexual relationships.

I'm also pretty sure that while most men are not looking for movie stars to sleep with, they do want a woman to be attractive to them. And while most women are not gold diggers, they do want a man who will be a provider for them and the family.

In the past, a young man sleeping with a hooker was accepted by society as a sort of rite of passage. It has been featured in many coming of age stories and even comedies (remember the 1982 movie Porky's?). Being a hooker or madame (unless you achieved riches and celebrity) has not generally been accepted.

As for woman... sure not all of them go for guys with lots of money. SOME do.

As for men... sure not all of them go for pure attractive women. SOME do.

For men that pay for play (as this is the topic of this thread), I can say generally that they are regular people (and the full range that includes). There are 101 reasons why they pay for it.

I actually agree. I should have said that MY marriage feels much more exploitative. And it may be that I have some additional dynamics involved that make it feel that way.

It’s a long story. So many now non-negotiable factors. But if Do-overs were possible & I were to ever hear someone say “Let me take you away from all this ...”, again? I would say “No, please don’t!” & quickly run away.

Maybe so. I grew up in the 1950's and 60's and married in the early 70's. But I've also got 3 grown kids and my friends all have kids as well. Even if he is not the sole provider in the household, very few women are interested in a having a husband that can't bring home a paycheck, especially when there are children. From what I have seen, it's really not negotiable.

Both my daughter and daughter in law are professionals, and stay at home moms. They and their partners agreed that until the kids are all in school, that's the way it's going to be.

I am very proud that the fathers are able to provide. It also means they have never been on a trip, they don't have the latest and greatest vehicles , but they also don't have payments of any sort other than their houses.

It works for them. They were all raised the same way.

Has anyone been to Asia before? Visit Thailand and you will find brothels on every corner. But if you get caught with pornography, you'll find yourself in jail. In America, the opposite is true. You can look at all the porn you want, but the police are constantly setting up stings with fake prostitutes to catch unsuspecting men trying to pay for sex, and then publicly humiliating these men, sometimes even confiscating their cars.

We have it backwards in this country, just like so many things. Sex is a business in Asia, just like a shop that does women nails or sells shoes. The problem with paying for sex is the gangsters who are often behind the scene and engage in human trafficking. That's why strict regulation, and penalties, need to be part of anyone providing sex for money, for everyones protection.

Asia, outside of Japan and only for specific acts there prostitution is illegal. So we are just talking about the local police priority of enforcement. You should be thinking Europe.
