The DoD ran up similar bills at hotels when Obama was out of DC. The DoD will have staff staying at the same fancy hotel/resort/unit as the president - always.

The ethics question is, should Trump stay at hotels that he doesn't own so that there isn't any questions of attempting to profit OR should he just have paid for it out of his own pocket had he insisted to stay at his own place.

The bright side, is the government didn't get charged for Trump's room, whereas they did under previous presidents! I would say that this saves money, except that Trump takes so many trips......

Is there a law that was? The link does not state anything other than just being mad, as you are....

I genuinely think they should just stay at properties he or members of his family do not own and are not stakeholders in. That would be the easiest solution.

If he does want to vacation at one of his own properties so be it, but there should be a restriction to how much budget is allowable per term to protect the president while outside the White House and not campaigning (ie: Mar A Lago).

That doesn't just go for President Trump though. I remember being irked by both Bush and Obama's vacations as well.

Once the set budget is exceeded, it should be from the Presidents own pocket, regardless of who is President.

Is there proof the government didn't pay for Trump's room? Because I'm guessing they did. Trump charges the government for EVERYTHING. That's why the whole "donating his salary" is so laughable. He makes far far far more money by using Trump properties and charging massive prices. Who logically charges the government $64K to use Trump Tower elevators for one month?

After this administration there will be slew of changes to ethics laws and procedures, we probably didn't ever think a president would take advantage of his office like Trump.

That is just one part of the ethics problems, its the promotion of his properties which he began even before he was elected. He should be staying at none of the Trump owned properties and he should not be commuting each weekend to his property in Florida.

You seem SHOCKED that something like this could happen, where have you been for the last few decades?

Oh wait, it's because it's Trump that it's a big deal, I get it now...

And how hypocritical would that be? Republicans are good with all this but they would enact new laws for future presidents after Trump leaves office? What about the nepotism? Honestly, if a Democratic president did every single thing Trump is doing, I would laugh simply because I know Republicans would be outraged were it the opposing party.

Did Obama charge back to his own properties? Oh wait, he didn't own properties like Trump.

Trump complained about Obama playing golf and Trump has dwarfed Obama's golfing. Trump complained about Obama campaigning as president and Trump has done that since day one. Trump complained about Obama vacations and Trump has been essentially vacationing about 25% of the time he's been in office. The list is endless and no interviewer puts Trump on the spot about it. How is it okay that our government agencies are now using Trump properties and Trump profits from it? Was it put to bid? Were the prices less? Or did Trump just charge them whatever he felt like because he knows he can as president? Would they have gone to a Trump property were he not president?
