Countries like Russia and China are more like competitors. They are large enough to have their own spheres of influence, and the game being played isn't really about 'death and destruction,' but more about soft geopolitical power.
China's desire is to be the dominate world power economically then militarily and politically.
If you want communism they are a friend. If not, they are the competition and foe.
They are our creditor. We are “allies” in the sense of having shared interests because of that relationship. Labels like “friend” and “foe” are irrelevant except to those whose grasp of world affairs was arrested at a 6th grade level.
EDIT: I apologize to any 6th graders reading this for what might be seen as an insult.
Practically everything I buy is made from there or has parts made from there. Their goods keeps things on the cheap in the U.S.
