Only gun nuts are impervious to propaganda and manipulation. They somehow just ooze wisdom while posting veiled threats of armed insurrections because their toys aren't appreciated by everyone.

Our Founding Fathers had tasted the bitter herb of tyranny served upon them by their own gov't. The enemy they wanted the citizenry to be armed against was not just foreign, but the enemy within.

Our Founding Fathers knew the necessity of education in order for the experiment of a democratic republic to survive. But we have now at least two generations of Americans that are shrouded in a cloud of historical illiteracy. Ask any millennial about WWII and you'll be stunned at their ignorance. Better yet, ask them about Viet Nam - its long forgotten and thought of as ancient history. So do you think asking them about our (their!) own nation's beginnings will bring you better enlightenment? Think again. European history?

The disarming of any populace is its death knell. And not from foreign invaders.

The Second Amendment was written to empower ordinary citizens to step up and take responsibility to help defend our nation. When the right to bear arms gets taken away, which to many seems inevitable, our country will pay a huge price in sacrificed lives for its defense. We won't be prepared, nor will we be mature enough to stand and fight. The few who choose to stand will be cut down, killed, for even trying. Their deaths will be futile, basically amounting to passive target practice for the enemy. It will take time to ramp back up, to stand and fight, and win, again. It will take too much precious time to regain our will to fight.

Think I'm full of it?

Research our initial stumbles into WW 1 and 2. Don't just believe me, do your own readings into the disasters like Pearl Harbor, the Battle at Casserine Pass, the initial Pacific battles like Bataan, and others to see the results of our unarmed pacifist citizens turned too quickly into soldiers. They were butchered by the thousands in less than a few hours. They froze out of fear, often not even firing one single shot from their rifles. They dropped everything and broke ranks and ran. Why? Because they were brought up by our society that guns are bad, that someone else will do the dirty work for them, that pacifism was the only path for our country's future. A couple of months of boot camp didn't change their minds, or prepare them for kill or die battle. So, they got killed by an enemy who was trained by their society to kill cowards right there on the spot.

So, fine, take away my Second Amendment, take away my guns. Disarm the general American public. Embarrass folks away from having a warrior mind. Gather every single person to the pet hugging tent to sing Cumbya, or whatever. When the next war starts, you will see the stupidity of your decisions. It will be too late to repair the damage.

Huh? How would armed citizens have stopped the Pearl Harbor attack, by standing outside and shooting revolvers at planes?

If we are invaded it will be by an ICBM with a nuclear payload, quit kidding yourself that you are going to save the US from a Russian invasion with your AR-15.

Those sporting automatic rifles at the Golden Corral are not going to protect the citizenry from government tyranny or keep our nation from being taken over by another country.

Get real.

That may have worked back in the day when the Redcoats marched in formation and used single shot rifles, but it ain't going to do jack **** against cyberwarfare, drones with missiles, F-16s, ...

If worse comes to worse, there will be sporadic Waco standoffs here and there until Walmart runs out of bullets.

What part of assault weapons didn’t you understand? A gun is one thing an assault weapon has no business being sold by gun dealers.

Good to know. But posting info from RW blog sites is beside the point.

Back to the question. Are there any Republican politicians who refuse NRA support?

Only specialized CLASS III gun dealers can sell assault rifles which are fully automatic, and start at around $20,000 and go up from there. You need a special license to buy them. You are talking about semi automatic sporting rifles. They are the most popular rifles in the U.S., and in daily COMMON USE.

It is YOU that doesn't understand what an "assault weapon" is because you refuse to be educated on the matter.
