I thought it had something to do with certain southern states seceding from the union.
Yeah, they declared their independence just like the other "traitors" George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay,, James Madison, and the rest of the rich club did 85 years earlier because of taxes........the difference is King George didn't rewrite history and used as a reason to wage war on the 13 colonies to "free" the black slaves and bring freedom to everyone.
Yeah I'm sure Lincoln waged the bloodiest war in U.S. history just on the principle that states could never get out of the federal union when nowhere in the Constitution gives the feds that power.
The south drew first blood in the civil war, ever hear of the siege of Ft Sumter?
keep believing that bullshi@t........if Lincoln would have told the citizens in the North that he was sending over 2 million of their sons and fathers to fight and die in the southern states and leave their wives and children alone and their crops for 4 long years just because of FT. Sumter, a fort in South Carolina that Lincoln instigated they would have shot him and saved themselves the agony.

The unity of America must be destroyed, by alienating interest groups, race baiting, and manufacturing divisive issues wherever possible. Rich v. Poor. Old v. Young. Privileged v. Underprivileged. Takers v. Taken. Union v. Confederacy.

There are none. Nor can you have a partisan squabble over securing said rights from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
You can only have squabbles over the "tax and bribe" socialist system in place since 1933. That's when Americans embraced the notion it was a "good thing" for government to TAKE from one to GIVE to another. Unfortunately that abolished private property and instituted a totalitarian police state to enforce it.
What else did you expect? Government wheedling, "Pretty please with sugar on top?"
Ironically, since no endowed right can be taxed, regulated or infringed, all abuses are based on consent of the governed and their exercise of government granted privileges.

The American right controls all three branches of the federal government and a staggering majority of state governments, yet they are the ones always talking Civil War. Civil wars are usually fight for freedom, independence or power. Why would the group that holds all the power want a civil war? Do they literally just want to kill their political opponents?

Which countries are those? Venezuela? Cuba? North Korea? China? The Left are the ones that get violent. Look at Black Lives Matter, Antifia, Black Panthers, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn. All far left, all VIOLENT. BTW, Ayers, and Dohrn are Obama pals. Nice huh?
Secession SHOULD be peaceful and is ALWAYS legal, at least in this country, because one of the bedrock assumptions of this nation, a core principle upon which rests the entire edifice, is that people have the innate right of freedom of political association. As a citizen you have some rights of associations - but try meeting with ISIS members, even if you mean no harm.
More importantly, what is OK for a citizen is not OK for the US Congress (members from each state) and other government figures. Please show us all where in the Constitution it says Senators and States can decide to leave the Union?
It's a stupid thing to even discuss because even Putin wouldn't want Texas....he has enough oil and certainly doesn't need a lot of "all hat and no cattle" types questioning his authority.
