I don't have all the answers on what contributed to this development, which I hope is indeed the case, but I'm grateful to anyone who enabled this to happen peacefully. If that includes Trump, so be it.

And our president will get his chance to make his contribution to this process very soon. Until then, lets give credit where credit is due. President Trump may have had a lot to do with bringing the North Koreans to the table, but this win goes to Xi Jinping. If it's real that is.
The only "credit" China gets is for propping up the Kims in NK since the mid 1950s and being the sole reason that the Kims maintain their horrifying rule in NK.

Thanks, China!

If you think Trump had nothing to do with the circumstances that resulted in the Kim-Xi meeting, you are extremely naïve.

I'd believe something Trump said, before I'd trust the Fat Boy to keep his word about nuclear weapons. Both of them think that telling the truth, is a weakness shared by the suckers of the world. Any assurances by Xi, who just had himself confirmed as Chinese president for life, are not to be taken seriously, either. Nothing that dictators may say, serves any purpose, other than maintaining their own power.

I have suspected all along this entire event with North Korea testing H bombs was actually orchestrated by China, or with lot of help by china. The goal of China has always been to get the world to accept North Korea regime as a legitimate government get rid of all sanctions. NK doesn't care about having Nukes because they know they will never win an all out war against the US, but what China knows is if they can convince US to leave Korea and allow China to replace US as the peace keeper it greatly expands their influence over the area. China has for long time wanted the US to pull out of Asia take over as Asian super power. If you look at what Trump said he wants to get rid of US being the worlds peace keeper, and Moon the south Korean President he will do anything to lower the tension on the border with NK even allowing China to operate as the peace keeper. Chinese long term plans could be to take South Korea, and Taiwan as well they saw how Putin was able to take land from Ukraine nothing happened.

You have a very shallow understanding of great power politics. NK is a Chinese satellite and with Kim in Beijing, which by the way is his only foreign trip so far since his rule, he is demonstrating his allegiance to China on the eve of his possible meeting with trump. China is also showing the US that it can easily play the NK card if the US insist on allowing its officials to travel to taiwan or allowing the US navy to park a warship in taiwan's port without Chinese permission. So, Bolton (an old creep who has never met a country he didn't want to bomb-rape), be warned!

China's bottom line is that the US recognizes that taiwan is part of "one China". The US bottom line is that NK not be allowed to nuclearize. The US can break its "one China" pledge and China can easily recognize NK as a nuclear state and place it under its nuclear umbrella. Dont stop on my red line and I wont step on yours. Touche.

Taiwan is a part of "One China" already and Beijing is happy with the current status quo for taiwan, which is officially called "the Republic of China" (look at its passport). What China will not accept is if the government on taiwan changes its official name to"taiwan" or the Republic of Taiwan." The ball to war is not in China's court, it's in the government of taiwan's court, egged on by idiots like Bolton and warmongers in the US Congress.
