Here's another perspective.

Don't get too excited -- only the opener was 'politically charged'.

I watched the highlights of the show and the available clips. I can see where the show is coming from. You have the Connors, working class white family who are smart enough to see they're getting the shaft economically and that nobody is going to help them so they have to help themselves. They aren't conservatives but they did recognize that Trump, despite his baggage, was an outsider who was their best hope for getting the country back on track and understood their frustration. The Jackie turnaround kind of was a little forced. She came across as a little addled, maybe she's suffering from some undiagnosed mental illness and is becoming impaired. She has the same frustration and even more anxiety as Roseanne but can't quite get a grip on what's going on around her so she wants someone to give her the answers and can't understand she's looking towards the wrong people for those answers.
But people don't argue like that in family settings. If they do, they alienate and isolate each other and only see each other for Holidays and family functions.

One thing everyone is missing is that the whole show is not pro Trump. I saw an interview with Roseanne and she described the current set-up as a split family. Her character is pro Trump and Lauri Metcalf's character is anti-Trump. The show is supposed to show the dynamic of a blue-collar midewestern family and the political divide is only one aspect. I've always respected that she had one of the most (and few) realistic portrayals of a typical family on television.

I think people on both sides are being pathetic. Some resfuse to watch because she is pro-Trump and a lot of Trumpians/Trumpettes are blasting about the success after years of complaining about Oprah, Clooney, Lebron, etc... I'll wait for someone to comment that she should simply shut up about politics and simply throw jokes and act out gags.
I've never seen the show, but your description sure makes it sound like All in the Family.

You guys think the viewership is because of trump? Hilarious!! Did it ever occur to you that the show was popular so people will naturally want to tune in? Like the show will revolve around trump in its entirety? Man, you guys are so sad. You know trump sucks so ANYTHING that could POSSIBLY put trump in a positive light, no matter how inconsequential, you guys will cling to. That is how ****ty of a president you got & how embarrassingly low your standards are. Sucks to be you!

Are you surprised?

I'd probably give it another chance but turned it off after about 2 minutes. Wasn't a big fan of the first go around.

I never watched the original show but my wife did so we tuned in last night to see the reboot and it was good.

It was so refreshing to see a show that featured regular middle class people with Conservative values.
They did not bash us over the head with opinions one way or another but having Roseannes sister show up with a ***** hat on was funny. I like that both sides were presented evenly unlike so many shows that lean so far Left they could be considered propaganda such as Saturday Night Live.

We will tune in next week.
