Turns out soft on crime policies....lead to a crime increase. Who woulda thunk it?

For sure the actually crime rates are even higher but victims know that there are no repercussions or consequences so they don't even bother reporting it in many cases.

Over the last decade, California has led the nation in reducing its prison population.

The state has shortened sentences and diverted some offenders to the counties for incarceration and supervision, transforming California’s criminal justice system into what supporters hope will become a humane model around the country.

But amid the changes, crime has increased in recent years, sparking debate about the causes and giving ammunition to those leading a new effort to roll back some of the reforms.

Let in 5-10 million illegals with little education and 70% are on Govt benefits, crime is going to also increase. Then you restrict ICE from enforcing the law and cooperating with local LE. You get what you ask for.

Want to reduce crime? Get tough on the law. Texas tries to enforce our laws. Half the people put to death in 2018 for Capital Crimes were put to death in Texas.

Yeah exactly. And crime has been going down in other states. California has basically rolled out the welcome mat for criminals.

Those jumps were mainly driven by increases in property crimes, particularly thefts from motor vehicles.
Drug addicted and/or homeless. ^

I have no problem with taking drugs or being homeless. It hurts no one. Do it but leave me out of it. I'm an anarchist so yeah.

However, the problem becomes when the other citizens can't use voluntary means/cooperation to discourage the drug addicts/homeless from committing these crimes because the State criminalizes the efforts of those citizens.

Of course this is all part of the master plan from the State. Create/foster the problem therefore more money/laws/regulations are "needed for reform". Tie the hands of regular citizens who could solve the problem and we end up here.

Maybe that's why Austin, TX has so many CA transplants.

The State ties the hands of regular citizens who would like to shun the "illegals" by voluntary means.

Don't stop anyone from going anywhere unless it's private property. Then the property owners can deal with it as they see fit. Just put societal pressure on "illegals" to not be jerks/drain on the rest of us. If they can't be somewhat moral human beings they can get shunned to the moon for all I care. That goes for all people...not just "illegals".

Comes down to 1 simple statement, if a person does not fear the punishment, then there is little reason them not to break the law in the first place.

When people fear the reprisal or the punishment, a much larger percentage will obey the laws. When the punishment is too lax, people are like what is the big deal if I break the law.

Has anyone thought to make California a ward o f the country? We could elect their leaders for them, run their states finances. Like you would for an relative that's not competent to handle their own affairs.

Sure, California has the most expensive housing in the nation and a huge homeless population with 0 handouts.
If you do not solve those 2 issues, then when you release felons from prison, do you think they are going to be able to get a job and also afford to live in those expensive houses?

Nope.

They will be doing whatever they can to survive. Dam the rules.
