Are you suggesting that evangelicals would have been better served by Jezebel, Hillary Clinton?
I am suggesting that if evangelicals want to be taken seriously as principled people, they can start by living by their principles instead of simply declaring them. A pretty smart fellow said something about beams and motes - middle-east, long hair, what was the name again?
2. Clinton is not the president of the United States
3. Trump became the president of the United States in part as a result of the evangelical vote
4. Evangelicals don't have to justify their actions, their inactions, their words, their belief system or their vote to anyone other than their God, and their close friends and family. Actually they don't even have to justify any of those things to anyone on that list. It's a free country and people are allowed to vote the way they want to vote.
5. This thread is nothing more than an excuse to bash Trump, bash those who voted for Trump in general, bash evangelicals who voted for Trump in particular and to try and put those groups on the defensive. In short - bashers are engaging in a circle jerk.
Evangelicals don't have to justify their actions, their inactions, their words, their belief system or their vote to anyone other than their God...
Well, then they're in deep doo-doo, as far as I can tell.
If Evangelicals would shut up about how their version of God forms the basis of the country's laws
- and stop trying to legislate their version of "morality" as well - then yes, fine, they can certainly do exactly as they like. But that's not what's happening, is it? When they go after the gays or those who are pro-choice or start blathering about abstinence-only education or fight the teaching of the theory of evolution or insist on posting the 10 commandments in places they don't belong, then they absolutely invite criticism.
If they want to say "We should all live by God's law", it's perfectly fair to say "You first."
If you want to live by the words of the Jewish Carpenter - and there are worse examples to follow - do so. The hungry need feeding, the naked need clothing, those in prison need visitors. More power to you.
On the other hand, if you want to stick your nose in how everybody else lives, the very least you can do is to lead by example.

That's fine, but they cede their moral authority by doing so. They can no longer preach at everyone else about morality when they have so publicly and purposefully turned a blind eye to it themselves.
But note, they are the ones who are attempting to justify their continued support for Trump. They are the ones who said he gets a mulligan for his moral shortcomings. You should be directing your comments to them, because they obviously do feel the need to justify their behavior.

No they don't. But they continue to try. A recent book written by an evangelical trying to portray Trump as a converted, now pious Christian and so on and so forth.
They desperately want to convince us that Trump is a true 'man of God' so that they can maintain their political power AND their moral outrage.

Christians believe in forgiveness and repentance. Mary Magdalene was a prostitute who became a saint. Most people become more spiritual in old age. Trump is no different.
I find it fascinating how Leftists don't feel shy about criticizing Christians but would never dream of judging Muslims as harshly.

Trump is exactly the same person he has always been. And if you think he is really a Christian, you have been duped.
