The gun is more for protection against other humans you may encounter, there can be some shady individuals out and about looking for a victim, or if you stumble upon some illegal activities going on, or if with a girl, may want to have a "good time" with her.

But those issues are very rare, and if were to happen, it would be more the central Florida trails, not down here in S. FL., my opinion at least. Plus, I have no idea why he would use his kid's backpack and not have his own. But, no reason has been given at all why he put the firearm in there.

However, none of that excuses this guy from not properly securing the firearm (I also wonder if he has a concealed carry permit).

We have had to shoot coyotes that were attacking the dogs where we hike. It's also Mt Lion country here along with a drug route for illegals so a handgun is pretty common. When you run into BP they will even tell you that you should be carrying out here.

We run into city types all the time out here and they have no clue despite being right on the border.

There are some cougars (real ones, no 40 years old MILFs) where I hike. And you never know what kind of crazy people you can meet.

From the article, the kid "just opened his book bag, he saw in the book bag, he said, “Oh,’ (he) closed his book bag, and I guess in that time frame is when the father came,”

So the kid saw Daddy's gun in his bookbag.

"Oh, shucks! Daddy forgot his gun ..."
