And lest anyone thinks that's an anomaly and the REALLY high income earners pay far less than that, here's the actual IRS data on the percentage of the total income they earn vs. the percentage of the federal income tax revenue they pay.

Top 0.1%, minimum income: $2.22 million

Earn 10.19% of the total income

But pay 19.5% of the total federal income tax revenue

Very similar to the the differential between what the top 1% (minimum income: $481,000) earns and what they pay.

Q: What do you call a millionaire after he pays his taxes?

A: A millionaire.

Carry on.

Q: What do you call a poor person after paying 0% in federal income tax?

A: A poor person.

The effective tax rate paid makes no difference whatsoever for either.

However, BOTH have the exact same access to federal government services/benefits, with the poor person actually having access to a plethora of additional public assistance benefits that the millionaire can't access.

So, how is it fair to pay much more but actually get far less from the federal government? Hmmm...?

Carry on.

MAGA
The Republican party abandoned fiscal responsibility decades before I was even born. How long are people going to keep believing this BS narrative that Republicans are the responsible ones who should be trusted with the money?

Those paying taxes pay taxes to support their ability to earn their incomes.

You're not making money without an educated workforce, infrustructure.

You're not keeping your money without laws and their enforcement.

The poor aren't enjoying all the country has to offer. They're subsistence human beings. Welfare is a form of social control on keeping them content.

When I was in 5th grade the teacher asked us all where we had traveled in the country. 95% of my class had never stepped foot outside their home state. I'd been to 35+ states by then.

Back on topic:

Ryan was given the chance to really make a mark on this country. The guy has been nothing but a failure unable to wrangle the infants he's charged with looking over. If he had a spine he wouldn't be retiring.

Nope. That's why literally millions of retired people DON'T work, but STILL pay federal income tax on their investment gains.

Good point, considering the abysmal failure of our country's K-12 public education system, which incidentally is ALSO tax-payer funded, and a complete joke. /puke

You're cherry picking leading to an ineffectual response.

Old people paying taxes on dividends are still paying taxes to protect their wealth. Rules and laws require money to enforce. Keeping the hordes at bay requires money.

They're still more educated than without. The effectiveness of education is an entirely different matter. The cost is there either way.

How about replacing Ryan with someone who actually believes in fiscal discipline?

The loss of an incrementalist utilitarian technocrat is nothing to mourn. Less of them is a good thing. Less of them in leadership positions is a great thing.

When the "wunderkind" unveiled his first super awesome, triple deluxe budget plan...that would reduce the annual deficit to zero in 50 years (lmao), I knew he was all sizzle and no steak...like every other RINO in the fetid swamp that is the US Capitol building. The GOP keeps putting a dyed in the wool RINO in the leadership posts, and we keep getting the same lack of decent opposition to Democrat agenda that we have enjoyed since FDR was POTUS.

The only people that will miss Ryan are the folks who like the "talk out of both sides of their mouth while governing like Democrats" statist who masquerade as even remotely conservative on anything.
