Obviously making money isn't their #1 priority.

You’ve never met evangelicals? Their #1 priority is God, and they are bible literalists generally. Any company that voluntarily gives up business on Sundays probably thinks that’s a little more important than profits.
When I was a teenager and ate at my first Chick-fil-A in the early ‘80s, they were only found in mall food courts (in my area at least). Back then we still had blue laws in Texas so malls weren’t open on Sundays. I never realized they didn’t open on Sundays until they were actually allowed to be but chose not to. Most retailers were lobbying for their businesses to be allowed to open on Sundays.
I sure was glad when they legalized it, though it was kind of nice to have a job and always have a weekend day off from work. I usually went to the beach or hung out at the park on Sundays rather than go to church, but it was nice because most people were off that day (except those poor kids who worked at the movie theater or Whataburger because they were the only stores open in the mall before they lifted the blue laws).
