Like he said, we don't care what you friggin call it!
Trump is making every effort to dismantle the ACA, without any vision for replacement.
Many intelligent and patriotic Americans attempted to craft a truly affordable healthcare plan that would replace the nonsensical-vacuous-ER-non-existent plan previously held in place, prior to the years of the Obama presidency.
I do seriously think that Trump along with other GOP members would have preferred to tweak the ACA, rather than attempt to repeal it, if the previous president had been someone else...
It's high time we all listen to Bernie and the OP when it comes to healthcare.
...but only if you start from the bottom. It's time we eliminated the insurance companies that add cost without any pretense of adding benefits and get rid of the Wall Street Mentality that drives Medical LLCs who order all the tests they can find to keep their profits up. It's time to go to a complete expansion of Medicare to cover everyone in the country. Single payer. UHC. Whatever you want to call it. If every other developed country can figure it out, surely we are smart enough to ask them what they are doing and do it as well.
Except wasteful testing and insurer profits, while a thing, don't drive most of the excess cost in America. They are simply not that big relative to the whole pie. It's our drug costs and that nurse and physician salaries are much higher here than anywhere else. Just changing who is cutting the check doesn't alter any of that without price controls, which is a whole other can of worms (and the high salaries are recycled back into our economy - the drug thing not so much, it's just a huge unmitigated problem).
On drugs the rest of the world keeps things cheap by free riding off of us - and we're so expensive BECAUSE we let it happen. They can impose price caps unsustainably low because prices can just balloon out here to cover it. The answer is to allow reimportation, and price differential caps on countries that don't allow exportation to keep your US patent. Would make the financing of drug research fair (aka America not carrying the load for the world anymore) and prices here far lower right quick.
Most drug research is funded by government grants (tax dollars) and done by private labs having nothing whatsoever to do with the major pharma companies until those companies purchase their research and patent rights to enable production/sales.
In that respect you're getting dinged twice in America. You not only fund the majority of research through your taxes but you get to pay exorbitant rates for your drugs for no better reason than share holder dividends.
The majority of drug research used to occur in the U.S. It is changing however.
