It was in a Delta bag -- clearly marked from the airline.

similar thing happened to me the first time I came back from Europe. I was given an orange that I didnt eat in flight but instead discarded it in the Intl section of Phillys airport around customs, no big deal as I wasnt going to try to keep it for my connecting flight to CLT from there.

report I read said it was in the ladys purse, no?

Then again the report I read was from fake news king CNN, now it make sense.

the same story I read earlier now says
"Tadlock tried to explain that the apple was clearly from Delta because it was in a Delta-branded clear bag,"

it did not have that wording when I first read the story. isnt that interesting?
in computer gaming we call this a stealth nerf.

It really doesn't matter. It boils down to one thing: Don't check the box saying "I am not carrying any fruit", then carry fruit.

People mess up, and if she'd moved on to own up, I would be more sympathetic. Once she decided it was the tricksy airline's fault, she lost any call on that.

Bingo. Most port of entries have signage and bins for just that purpose.

At the Ottawa airport, while checking in for a return flight to EWR, I stepped aside and ate my apple rather than throw it away. I just couldn't waste it.

The Customs agent was a smug douche no matter what...
If you ever flown international, you are given a card to declare what you bring and told what you can't bring. She obviously left that off the card.
