Manufacturers expanding at fastest pace in three years. Is this a bad thing ?

Manufacturing is only one part of the economy but it seems its a good thing to see it increasing as predicted by the Trump admin.

Overall it sounds like a good report. It definitely fits in with what I see locally.

Liberal Democrats hate manufacturing. They especially hate that the states with the highest percentage of manufacturing workers voted for President Trump.

If there is a little inflation just so we can have wonderful products made here rather than cheap stuff from countries most have never heard of than so be it.

To me there is far more contribution to society with a solid manufacturing, construction or labor job than a highly-government subsidized health-care or education job.

Manufacturing has the largest economic multiplier of any sector. It requires other manufacturers, and service industries for support, therefore, ultimately creating the most jobs. It is the backbone of a developed economy. We don't want to be an economy selling hamburgers to each other on foreign made grills, or using foreign made robots.

It is a good article but Did you read the article?

It suggests the ramping up isn't good news necessarily and that there were brakes in the first quarter of the year.

At the same time, the survey showed the cost of raw or partly finished materials increased at the fastest pace in almost five years. Firms said the recently announced White House tariffs on steel as well as a large basket of Chinese goods were partly to blame.
The economy is ramping up for a strong spring, but shortages of skilled labor, rising inflation and the threat of widespread tariffs could put a cap on U.S. growth despite recent tax cuts and higher federal spending.

And let's just remember

“After a relatively disappointing start to the year, the second quarter should prove a lot more encouraging,” said Chris Williamson, chief business economist at IHS Markit.

In our community we had great expansion in the previous years before Trump. For whatever reasons...after the market crashed, we had industries move here, tourism, housing, everything was booming.

Included in that growth in our community -- was a major manufacturing facility that was announced in 2014, started in 2015 and yet to be fully operational. VOLVO is anticipating some 3900 jobs to be eventually added to our area. The plant won't be finished until late summer.

This is good news. It means that we are getting back to the rate of increase seen three years ago when Obama was in the White House.

Gee, I wonder who will take credit for that.
