This same scenario occurred with Charlie Gard when an air ambulance was ready and waiting, financial donations were secured and the British Government refused the parents the right to fight for the life of their child!

If a parent cannot make decisions for their child because they are prevented from doing so by their government, that government has assumed ownership over that child.

Wonder how this would play out if the child was of the "Royal Family?"

Quote:
Mr Justice Hayden also appeared to rule out his family’s wishes to take the 23-month-old to Italy for treatment.

Alfie has been at the center of a life-or-death treatment battle, with his parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, trying to stop his doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool from withdrawing life support in a sometimes acrimonious six-month dispute which has seen a series of court battles.

Last night life-support was withdrawn but Alfie, who has a degenerative neurological condition destroying his brain, has shocked medics by continuing to breathe unaided for nearly 24 hours with an air ambulance on stand by to fly the child to Italy.

But in a blow to Alfie’s parents and their supporters dubbed Alfie’s Army, Mr Justice Hayden, speaking to lawyers representing Alfie’s parents and Alder Hey Hospital, suggested he has ruled out further treatment in Italy or Germany.
The Associated Press reported earlier today that the Vatican had offered to provide Alfie with medical care.

Italy granted Alfie citizenship to try to smooth the process, but the UK has dug in its heels.

The kid's brain is gone. Let him die in peace for goodness sake.

They've (The Doctors) already suffered a loss of credibility.
Alfie's doctors predicted that he would die within minutes of being removed from the respirator ... He didn't.

The courts don't seem to care that the doctors were wrong about that, or were willing to consider the notion that they might be wrong about their prognosis.

That the doctors have determined to starve this child to death, and the courts stand by that decision is chilling.

The abject insanity of it all – the argument that the toddler may die if he travels so best to kill him in Britain – is what has turned the case of Alfie Evans into a worldwide story.

One of the key facts about Alfie is that no one knows what is ailing him. This alone should be a reason to keep him alive. His lack of definitive diagnosis should mean that, at minimum, he be kept alive until doctors can figure it out.

The confidence with which doctors are proclaiming Alfie has no chance to improve might make sense if they knew what was wrong with him in the first place. That they don’t, and are letting him die anyway, is damning.

The hospital, and those who support ending all treatment for Alfie, say that his quality of life is poor and therefore he should be allowed to die ostensibly “with dignity.” But the idea that those who have a less-than-ideal quality of life should be killed is barbaric.
Alfie Evans deserves the chance to fight for his life -- Why is the UK determined to let him die? | Fox News

This here is a big difference between public and private healthcare. Private insurance may refuse to pay for treatment but only government run healthcare can forbid you to seek further treatment elsewhere.

I'll never understand why the government gets involved with these things over there. Why would they deny this? They weren't going to have to do anything or pay anything it seems. Why? THIS folks is what death panels that come with government run healthcare looks like.

if there was a medical transport plane waiting and a hospital in Italy willing to take him, what prevented the parents from taking him out of the hospital and to Italy?

The government, duh. They basically kidnapped him and claimed ownership.

Not suprising. Substance abuse laws have made it clear the state owns our bodies, so parents certainly can't own the body of their child.
Cant wait for state run health care to be implemented here, so our own Caesar can decide who is healthy, who is sick, who gets treated and who dies.
