And South Korea came out today and gave total credit to Trump for bringing the north and south together for their first historic summit together. They said Trump convinced Kim to do it.

I despise Trump and everything he stands for but, as I've said before, he might be the only one to give North Korea what it wants -- lots of attention. Other presidents have treated North Korea as a pretend country but Trump didn't get the memo or slept through the briefing. There's no such thing as bad publicity as far as Kim-boy is concerned and that seems to go double for Trump.

News sources show that Kim's nuclear test site suffered a major collapse that probably makes it inoperable. That could be due to infrastructure failure or potential contamination or both. That may be what has motivated Kim to behave in unusually diplomatic ways in recent weeks. If you are old enough you might remember Nixon going to China, which was a radical departure from past US foreign policy. He got away with it because he had strong right-wing, anti-communist credentials. Someone more liberal would not have been able to pull that off. In Trump's case, he has no notion of diplomatic precedence or a grasp of the history of US/NK relations. He has no credentials whatsoever. If he manages to find some sort of common ground with Kim it will be a case of the proverbial blind pig finding an acorn.

China seems to be quite active in this scenario especially since Kim made a semi-secret visit to Beijing in the last week or so. Kim has been playing with fire and the collapse of his mountain bomb test site probably has China and Russia alarmed because he could unwittingly create a new Chernobyl and contaminate his own country and theirs.

You think North Korea is going to give up nukes for attention?

At the core of all conditions in the past has been North Korea's nuclear programs which they have lied about, or backed off on the conditions, etc.

What does Trump have that the other President didn't have -- please don't tell me his tough tweets.

His tweets and name calling?

Really -- you think that is what is going to motivate North Korea?

That's how you have to treat these kinds of guys---FDR did it...so did Truman, Ike and Reagan.

And JFK. I agree with this.

Dictators know that clowns like tRump will be in place for a few short years and then poof!, they're gone. Meanwhile, they remain in office for a lifetime, usually.

They also know that he's an easily played bozo who will bargain away things in order to show his base that he "got a win!"

His bold talk doesn't scare anyone.

They're very aware that he's a coward.

Obama was a nothing burger. Just lazy, unwilling to work with Congress, his legacy was a series of memos and orders with nothing to back them up.... oh ... and Obamacare which has failed miserably.

My personal opinion: Trump had very little to do with North Korea's decision to stop nuke testing. About a month ago Kim Jong Un took a train ride to Beijing where he had closed door talks with China's President Xi. KJU is not going to listen to the United States no matter who is president, but you can bet North Korea will do what China tells them. I think it was Xi, not Trump, who got North Korea to back off.

Well....... Reports out of China show that N Korea blew up their nuclear test site. It's a mountain with a 2500 foot shaft where they detonate their bombs and the mountain collapsed. So I would theorize that is the reason why they have agreed to stop testing. /shrug
