I like the two episodes William Shatner was in pre Star Trek. "Nick of Time" from 1960, and "Nightmare at 20,000 feet from 1963. The first had a fortune telling machine on the table at a local diner, and the second had a monster on the wing of the airplane in which Shatner is a passenger. Classic.

Which ideology does this sound like?

The Outer Limits (TV episode 1997)

Personally I think it refers to what Mr. Orwell describes as a "Dying Metaphor" in

George Orwell: Politics and the English Language

Totally worthwhile to read in its entirety, here's a teaser:

"In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defence of the indefensible."

Written in 1946, still relevant.

Yes
Little more difficult to relate to Trump moments
But guess he could be the monster on the plane, trying to destroy it in flight
The plane could stand for America
Don't think Mueller is Shatner--Shatner lost it when people wouldn't believe his story of the beast on the wing
Mueller is too methodical for that

So if there are some tv fans of the series, I thought we might parse which episodes can be appreciated anew in light of our current POTUS and his administration...

I would just like to suggest three--

First, "The Eye of the Beholder"
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eye_of_the_Beholder
The inability of the hospital staff (reflecting the rest of their society's POV) and their patient to open their eyes to a different form of "beauty" seems indicative of the general political polarization in today's culture--that has been going on for decades really...Trump just exploited and energized it exponentially during his campaign and in his administration...

Second: "It's a Good Life" with Billy Mummy as Anthony, the young boy who sends those who draw his ire to "the cornfield"...

Third (and perhaps not that well-remembered): "Walking Distance" w/Gig Young and Ron Howard as his younger self...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking_Distance
I would recommend: The Obsolete Man

I like to watch old shows like that because often you see actors that became super famous later in their careers, like Shatner. Mueller, and Comey are disgusting dolts. This too shall pass.

Actually you misconstrue the plot

The main character is a librarian. He is obsolete because the State has outlawed books--freedom of information so to speak. [and I guess we can see that in Trump's obsession with "fake news" and disparaging opposing opinions] The State/The Chancellor agrees to have his death by a special assassin televised.
The librarian, Romney Wordsworth [guess we can all see the irony there]asked the Chancellor, ruler of the State, to come see him in his apartment while he is waiting for his execution. The Chancellor arrives only to be told a bomb will be the execution method, the door is locked, and with the cameras running -- The Chacellor has to be killed along with Wordworth. The Chancellor breaks down as Wordsworth reads consoling passages from his illegal Bible---and begs "in the name of God" to be set free. Wordsworth agrees, lets him out, and is killed when the bomb explodes. Because he called on God and because he was craven, the Chancellor is declared "obsolete" almost immediately and when he tries to escape is subdued, held for his own execution.

The closing narration Serling read:
"The Chancellor, the late Chancellor, was only partly correct. He WAS obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. [ Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons, when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all]
Any state, any entity, any ideology which fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of MAN...that state is obsolete.

The section in [/] was in script but cut for time, likely...

So yes--there is minor religion angle but to me more about the State not being willing to accept Man's right to free expression and to be different---Heaven knows, the GOP doesn't want to support anyone who divergent too far from their idea of what is right and proper Americanism...
Good choice...
