25% tariffs on steel and 10% tariffs on aluminium will be imposed on Canada at midnight tonight.
The USA seems to be really mad that Canada won't capitulate regarding NAFTA demands, so the country is now using trade war to achieve control over Canada. It will be interesting to see how this ricochets to empty the pockets of hard working USA citizens.
You know who ends up paying the tariffs -- yup -- consumers.

MAGA.
Now Canada is making decisions about how to retaliate.
Canada and the USA have been sibling who have each other's backs, but now we have big brother attacking little sister because little sister won't let big brother take all the toys and run. It's quite a sad shift in the relationship between such powerful countries.
because he screams (literally) and boasts BIGLY about everything he's going to do.
haha, if he's getting so much opposition from a republican congress, what's he going to accomplish if/when at least the House goes dem?
Obama had an opposition congress for six of his eight years and still managed to get things done.
poor wittle Donny!
poor wittle donny? I guess you may not have realized that President Trump IS STILL IN OFFICE (duh) why is it impossible in your mind (ha) that it can NEVER BE DONE...EVER!!!? I mean he still has 7 years to change a few things before submitting a better version.
Obama was a utter failure, quit trying to defend that loser--mr hope and change apparently was incapable of overcoming a few things to get anything done..
There was a NAFTA deal a few days ago but trump vetoed it despite his team supporting it. The Arse of the Deal strikes again.
He keeps doing this....tells his staff, or Congress or the American people what he wants, then when he gets it, he changes his mind. Colossal waste of time.
OTTAWA—Canada, the United States, and Mexico had a new NAFTA agreement in hand but U.S. President Donald Trump changed his mind about what should be in the deal and nixed it.
After nine months of gruelling negotiations, the outlook for the overhaul of the 24-year-old free trade pact took a turn for the better in the spring.
With the U.S. and Mexico facing procedural and political deadlines, negotiators were reportedly ready to compromise on key auto sector measures. The U.S. in particular softened its position on the crucial issue of where, and how much, automotive content would have to be sourced from the three countries to qualify for duty-free treatment.
Despite wide differences on a host of serious trade issues, solving the rules on autos had long been seen as a potential breakthrough that could allow Canada, the U.S., and Mexico to move forward toward a deal.
“There is very much an imminently achievable outcome that will be good for the United States, good for Canada, good for Mexico—and we’re very close,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a Calgary news conference on May 15.
U.S. officials had been working from what they understood to be Trump’s negotiating goals, but when the preliminary agreement was put before the president for his approval, he said he actually wanted something else, according to a person with knowledge of the talks who spoke to me.

trump does not understand history, diplomacy or just being a good neighbor.
As others have noted, tariffs are a negotiating tool that are working quite well.
South Korea has agreed to import more American cars, ease import regulations and most likely played a hand in the peace accord between the two Koreas.
The EU will most likely get some relief from the tariffs in exchange for paying their full shares of the EU defense bills.
China will get some relief in exchange for ending the theft of intellectual property.
Mexico will eventually give in and pay for the wall in exchange for gently massaging NAFTA. They're doomed if NAFTA is scrapped.
In each case we will have moved toward balanced trade, plus gotten key concessions & each party will walk away happy.
MAGA!
Here's the danger in the thought process in Trumpland- you give him credit for accomplishments that have not happened or have been claimed without being set in stone.
Example- your South Korean car import victory. They didn't agree to import more cars, they actually agreed to up the limit of cars that can be imported. Problem being we've never come close to hitting the current limit at all. Thus they could have made the limit one million billion trillion and it would have same affect, none at all. But again, this requires knowledge on the subject matter, research, not taking everything Daddy says at face value, and critical thinking skills.

The article said that the decision is postponed. There is nothing wrong with that like there is nothing wrong with postponing the Wall. Yes Trump's supporters are disappointed that the wall has not been built yet but we all recognize that there is huge push back from many misguided short sighted people that somehow think that having open borders is a good idea and a positive thing for the country.
Trump is doing the best he can in the face of the most ridiculous opposition any President has ever faced and his base understand this.
WHAT utter NONSENSE!
Obama took office with Congress vowing to block his every move, did Trump?
Stop the 'poor widdle Donny isn't allowed to pway anywhere in the park he wants to' crap.

Oh please. You would criticize Trump's decision whether he approved it, rejected it, or modified it. Your conclusion was determined long ago, all that remains is how you write it up. If he had accepted that deal you would have been crowing about how Trump caved and got out-negotiated because the U.S. "softened it's position".
