There aren't many anymore on a national level but someone like Joe Manchin would be who I would think of.

The last two in Washington were Ernest Hollings and Zell Miller, and they both left office over 10 years ago

1. There are many factions in the Democratic party with many different values and belief. Unlike the Republican party which tends to be very homogeneous.

2. The Republican party has gone so far to the right that it makes the Democratic party a centrist to left party by default. Contributing to #1.

All that makes the D, by default, an all encompassing party that a slogan like DINO is silly and unnecessary.

.

There are certainly lots of conservative Democrats. I find that the party isn't interested in ideological purity as much as the Republicans; that's probably why nobody says "DINO."

We call them Blue Dogs and they're welcome* within our ranks as a moderating influence. I have some good local ones but they are not so common on the national level. Primaries and all that I suspect.

*by me at least

The Democratic Party is the big tent party. It doesn't allow an unhinged fringe element to take control and decide who is a "real" Democrat and who is not. That's strictly the GOP's M.O.

This is well stated. But the official Blue Dog coalition which at one time had 54 members, has been in steep decline since 2010, and now is down to 18 members. They were actually down to 14 members in the 114th Congress (2014-16).
Blue Dog PAC – bold leadership. commonsense solutions.

A lot of them were recruited by Rahm Emanuel when he was in the Obama admin, whose idea was to expand the Dem majority by running conservative candidates in conservative districts. But by 2011, most were gone.

That has hardly been the case regarding the abortion issue:

DNC chairman Tom Perez blackballed Heath Mello, a rising star in Democrat-starved Nebraska, because of his personal pro-life views (views that only occasionally eemed to influence his votes). Perez said that Democrats should speak with “one voice” on abortion

I do agree in a way w/ you. The Democrats have just become a big coalition of rent seekers who support each other via log-rolling. In that sense, Democrats are less ideologically driven than Republicans.

In short Democrats are all about the money; Republicans are more about the ideas.
