So, what are you saying, you want affirmative action for conservative professors?
IDK
There is a lack of diversity.
What is the best way to correct that ?
AA maybe, anything else ?
The left has been very concerned with diversity and correcting it. I was wondering how they might find a solution. Hopefully there is more than one solution.
For the vast majority, the primary goal is an increase in their worth to future employers, not "expanding their minds" in some hippy form of the word. County colleges should offer the top 10ish stand alone (does not require masters) fields bachelors degrees. The degree should read [state] University. Perhaps combine it with distance learning at the 300 and 400 level courses by top people actually in the field. Imagine management 401 taught by Mulally or Eng 401 class by the ASME award winner etc...
People who have post-graduate education tend to be liberal. Professors need to have post-graduate education. I think that encouraging more conservatives to pursue the type of education needed to become a college professor is just going to lead to more liberals, not more conservative professors.
I doubt universities should be asking prospective professors what their political leanings are just to try to even out how many staff they have of each political persuasion
Besides, part of the reason could be the fact that most people with Post Graduate degrees lean left/vote Democrat. Until there are more Republicans going on to post graduate degrees, there is bound to be a discrepancy. This isn't the fault of the universities or the system.
