Went back and read your links. We already admit over 1 million legal immigrants per year. There's no reason immigration should be easier.

Sounds like people are using asylum as a loophole as they would not qualify otherwise. No country in the world wants a massive influx of poor uneducated unskilled people, it would be terrible for our citizens and economy. Sorry, just a fact.

You might want to read the following...

In 1996, Congress created expedited removal for undocumented immigrants without a hearing. Initially it only applied at the U.S. border. Then it was expanded to within 100 miles of a border for undocumented immigrants who had been in the country less than 14 days.

President Donald Trump announced in January that his administration will apply the program anywhere in the United States to undocumented immigrants present less than two years.

"In the past, the government has largely prevailed when such programs have been challenged," Gordon said. "However, the Trump administration is proposing to expand some of these programs to include many more undocumented immigrants; it remains to be seen if the expansion will be upheld."

Don't forget butts in pews and $$$$ in collection plates as well. Gotta keep the churches growing...

Seeing as you're coy about which "process" your GF used, I guess you've placed the subject off limits in your mind. Family-based? Employment? Refugee?

Because - as I'm sure you know - these aren't universally available options.

And I happen to know, because I went through the process myself. I am of course lucky - I have resources, sought-after skills, speak decent English and have Scandinavian genes. And I have no qualms calling it a colossal and expensive pain in the rear.
