I agree with ending the drug war by closing off our borders and implement laws on the book so everyone’s loved ones can stay away from addiction and ruined life’s!
So intensify the drug war domestically by locking people up for long prison sentances for use and possession of small amounts?

"life's"

Who's life and what is the object it is possessing?

I doubt it, but okay and throw a bunch of cops out of work while you're at it.

Yes. Millions upon millions used an illegal drug last weekend, including yours truly.

One of the most ridiculous posts ever.

Yes, laws will keep everyone's loved ones away from drugs.

Yes, the statement is so absurd that it deserved a hat trick of head slaps.

I like the logic of the drug warriors: "Drugs are bad for you. They ruin your life. So if we catch you with drugs we're going to send you to prison. Because we wouldn't want you to ruin your life, now, would we?"

The analogy I like to use is: Someone touches a hot stove and burns their finger, which is bad for them. So the law steps in and says "We are going to punish you for burning your finger, and we want to protect you from burning your finger again, so we are going to cut your hand off."

Another thread made me realize just how insane The War on Drugs really is. In it, someone made a comment that drug addicts cost society "hundreds of millions per year". I don't know what the real figure is, but for the sake of argument let's be safe and call it a billion. So, at $1 Billion per year, it would take addicts 1,000 years to cost society $1 Trillion. But isn't that about how much we spend every year fighting The War on Drugs?

Yep, that's a 4 slapper all right.

I did none of those.
I don't have time for such foolishness these days.
Now 30-40 years ago?
Don't ask.

It gets even more crazy...we spend all this money on deterring drug use, but by some mysterious method, the cartels are CONSISTENTLY able to get enough dope into the country, to keep every single city supplied, so much so, that numerous cities and states have major heroin epidemics right now. The consistency is what really makes me suspicious. This would be a difficult feat for a legal product!!

I think whats happening, the powers that be are throwing border police a bone or two here and there, like when they pose with pictures of the dope they find in vehicles attempting to cross the border, but when they are posing with a 10 kilo bust, a fully loaded tractor trailer drives right on thru to its destination.

Another very suspicious aspect to this, is the acreage needed to keep an entire nation supplied in heroin to this degree, roughly it takes 5-8 acres of poppies to keep one user supplied daily, I cannot imagine the size of the poppy fields they have in Mexico and other places. I would bet they can be seen from space!

As the wife of a retired cop (who was at one time a K9 handler) this IS a really stupid reason against legalizing pot. K9s live in the same home as their handlers. They live with (and are part of) a family when off duty. Almost always, when a K9 retires he is adopted permanently by the handler and his family. They won't be put down if a state legalizes pot.
