In 2012, the average American taxpayer making $50,000 per year paid just $36 towards the food stamps program and about $6 per year for the rest of the social safety net programs. Republicans say this is too much — cut it!
Corporate welfare, however, costs the average American family a staggering $6,000 a year in subsidies to Republican-friendly big business. The bottom-line is that American families are paying $6,000 or more per year to subsidize giant transnational corporations that are already making billions in profit. In the past decade alone, corporations have doubled their profits on our buck.

ahh..more leftists lying about the leftist boogeyman of corporate welfare...that does not exist
sorry but a tax write-off for a farmer is not welfare...meanwhile we spend trillions sending real checks (real welfare) to lazy trash
but if you are going to call a tax break welfare...maybe you should look at the real welfare problem...the government bailing out failed companies(like gm), and trying to steer business (like solindra)
for example the very large DOEnergy, funds (and you wonder why their budget is so big) the entire American PV industry (Photovoltaics (PVs) -- the semiconductor-based solar cells)... now that certainly could be called corporate welfare...and its straight out of the liberal playbook
The DOE is also underwriting, among other projects, much of the cost of developing prototypes of a more efficient wind generator being built by Cannon Wind Eagle Corporation of California. .... heck half of California ((the quoted 6th largest economy)) is corporate welfare

they once were GREAT.....but that ended back in the 70's
No not at all. Unions still have great pay and benefits. And they teach you the trade if you're not cut out for college. It's republicans who want unions gone because they are all for the rich. Republicans are destroying the middle class because they have no need for them.

I worked with a bunch of union guys.... a bunch of pansy dumb rocks
they felt privileged that they were union...skipped training, why, because who is going to say anything...bragged about getting all the cushy raises... meanwhile worst and laziest mechanics I ever worked with.
yet great pay and benefits... but poor performance
why do you think the phrase ""pay for performance"" scares most union lackeys???

Coincidentally the 70s were when corporate lobbying took off.
Followed in the 80s by the FIRE (financial, insurance, real estate) corporate lobbying.
Removing labor unions & their lobbying for people became one of the main objectives for corporate & FIRE sector lobbyists.
In more simpler times, making more 'widgets' was one of the best ways to increase profits. Now, corporations use their capital: to influence politicians for deregulation, offshore when possible to decrease labor & operation costs, & so on.
