Michelle Obama Calls Herself the 'Forever First Lady' in Speech to High School Students | Fox News Insider

Sorry, Michelle but you are not our “Forever" First Lady and never will be. One reason is there is no such thing and even if there was there are a lot of Former First Ladies who are more deserving of such an honor: Martha Washington, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, Betty Ford, etc., to name a few.

Michelle Obama did not like being First Lady at all and could not wait to leave The White House (for those who say otherwise read the book 'First Women' by Kate Brower), so how can she bestow on to herself such a non-existent prestigious title like that? She thinks she is entitled.

Even though she took up (reluctantly) her causes and initiatives she hated being First Lady mainly because of lack of privacy (which I guess I can understand that part) and did not want to move into the White House. She took little interest in The History of the White House and could care less about The History of First Ladies and its role and showed no interest in learning more about any of her predecessors.

There have been a lot of reluctant First Ladies in the past but at least most of them showed or had interest and read up on their predecessors.

I'm just glad she is gone, as well as her flunky husband.

They are all "forever" first ladies. And all the presidents are "forever" presidents.

It's just how we've always done it. We keep referring to them in that manner after they have left office.

It's just a way of expressing something she means to them.

That said, all of the presidents, first wives, vice presidents, etc are still referred to as such after they leave office.

You are right in that way but that is not how Michelle meant it.

Not all British People feel that way about Diana or like her. I know People from the U.K who did not like her. I am a member of some Royal groups and there are British People who thought she was fake among other things. But this is not about Diana

She laughed as she said it. Quite lighthearted. Watch the video.

Enlighten us, since you obviously were at the event and know Michelle well. How did she mean it?
