President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!

President Trump pledged on Sunday to help Chinese phone manufacturer ZTE return to business, days after the company said it would cease “major operating activities” because of the U.S. government’s recent trade restrictions.

“President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast,” Trump tweeted. “Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!”

The comment marks a dramatic shift in tone for a president who has long accused China of stealing U.S. jobs — and could presage a reversal of one of the Trump administration’s toughest actions to date against a Chinese company.

A week ago, the Pentagon banned the sale of phones by this company on bases due to spying and security risks. Now the US Commerce Department is charged with helping them.

Somebody who speaks Trump needs to explain this to the rest of us.

Maybe you should research before posting stuff you don't understand.

For those playing catch up: ZTE makes phones/cell equipment. It broke US sanctions on Iran/North Korea, then lied to USG. In response USG cut its access to all US components, effectively killing it. In the context of the trade spat, it’s resuscitation is being used for leverage.

In other words, he's turned Xi into a beggar.

Default Trump whiplash on ZTE - now he's worried about job loses in Chana

He put sanctions on major Chinese cell phone manufacturer ZTE, forcing them to shut down, and now "President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!"

Yep, Trump cares greatly about Chinese telecoms that snoop on the whole world through their equipment....

Or, he is plain scared of what China can do to us if they try (economically)...

You have to admit - Trump is quite comical. He really thinks that "instructions to the Commerce Dept to get it done" is how our government works.

This is a guy who couldn't get Atlantic City done - a single large Hotel Project bankrupted him and many others.

No, Trump screwed up and has to back off. Xi has explained the trade consequences and retaliation if he doesn't.... so Trump is scrambling with a hasty tweet from the golf course. A Sunday noon tweet isn't the sign of someone in charge,
