I get your general point re: discipline, but not beating kids. Like, why did he have access to these guns? Why did his parents not know what he was posting on social media?

Hold parents accountable for this crap.
I am so angry about this. I hope these grieving parents get together and sue this family for everything they have.

As I said months ago...if the dems confiscate the black guns, they will use shotguns to kill. If they confiscate the semi-auto pistols, they will use revolvers.

Proves the point the dems wont be satisfied until they outlaw ALL guns and the black guns are only the beginning.

Everyone entering the school needs to go through a man trap metal detector.
Which is why I said before (though I am not a Dem, I am pretty liberal) that we need to make guns harder to get and we need to hold gun owners accountable for the guns they have purchased.

If this means we throw people in jail when a gun they bought is used in a crime, so be it.

If you buy a gun and it is stolen? Report it and if police determine you were storing it securely, you're good.

If they determine that you were leaving it out and about and generally being irresponsible, I guess you get charges filed and you lose your right to purchase more guns AND have to give up your guns.

Maybe not forever. Depends on the crime. Murders? Yes. Your gun was used in an armed robbery? Maybe some number of years relative to the crime.

We remove rights from felons, and people who are lackadaisical about the way they store their firearms should be treated like felons.

So in that context, yes it does matter.
No, it does not. A theft is a theft. The shooter stole the guns. The father is no more liable for the subsequent crime than Home Depot was for the NYC mass murder committed with one of its rental trucks (which was a PERMISSIBLE taking by lease of the involved weapon).

At 17 I was worried about upcoming college & working to support my family, my older brother leaving for the military & listening to American Top 40 on Sundays with Kasey Casem to hear what songs had topped the charts!
Idle minds are the tools of the devil it seems!
Those were the things I was thinking about back when I was in high school in 1975, along with cars, girls, my future career, etc.

Let's see what this shooter's excuse is for killing his schoolmates.

If Dad had given hm alcohol and the kid had killed someone drinking and driving, Dad would be liable.

Maybe if we make gun owners responsible for securing their weapons then we won't fight so hard to take them away from gun owners.
I am behind this 100%.

If dad's alcohol got him drunk and he killed a busload in a drunk driving accident, dad would sure get charged.

The link you referred to states:

So an assault rifle wasn't used.

Assault Rifle noun. A compact carbine sized weapon, chambered in an intermediate powered cartridge, capable of selective modes of fire.
Example M16 fire modes. Safe. Semi auto. Full auto. Or Safe. Semi auto. Burst.

AR 15 does not qualify as an assault rifle.
