Heck, we pay our military a LOT more than that! I remember signing bonuses for Iraq were getting into the over $10K range near the end of the Bush POTUS terms.

There were both Hamas operatives as well as paid civilians. The idea was to get the civilians, mostly kids, to tear a hole in the fence so that Hamas members could get through.

The United States regardless of President should have no Middle Eastern ties or involvement.
