Gavin Bell, a senior at Cherokee Trail High School, expressed interest in attending Texas Wesleyan University in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and joining the school's baseball program, but was rejected in an email sent to the student by Head Baseball Coach Mike Jeffcoat.
Jeffcoat writes, “Thanks for the interest in our program. Unfortunately, we are not recruiting players from the state of Colorado. In the past, players have had trouble passing our drug test. We have made a decision to not take a chance on Student-athletes from your state. You can thank your liberal politicians. Best of Luck wherever you decide to play.”

Unintended consequences...
Nope, just stupidity and political bigotry. The legal age for recreational marijuana in Colorado is 21. Are high schools graduating a lot of 21 year olds?
Or is this coach pretending that no high school students anywhere in the country where marijuana is illegal don't also ever break the law by using it? Which is of course patently absurd.

Exactly. A drug test costs peanuts and I doubt there is any significant difference in positive test results from athletes in Colorado vs other states.
The coach is a Fox News/Talk Radio consuming d-bag whose obsession with dubious infotainment has clouded his judgement.

OR maybe his point is that more HS kids from CO are testing positive than most other places. All they have to do is get their 21 year old family member/friend/stranger to buy it for them.

Forget the weed, the coach is ASSuming guilt based on nothing but someone's home state.
Sounds like a bonehead who wouldn't be worth playing for anyway. Hope ya lose 'em all Mike!
I hope the kid tells the coach to take his "liberal politicians" BS and stick it where the sun don't shine.
