I just saw this on The Today Show. Shocking. I do not like many celebrities but I did like him. It's too bad but you never know what's really going on in anyone's head.

DAMN! I always thought he'd be more likely to beat up life than for life to beat him up. Very sad.

it is always sad to hear of a suicide . My aunt always used to say be kind to everyone because you don't know what kind of battle they are fighting . He must have been fighting some kind of battle in his life to actually think of suicide as a way out . It is still sad no matter what . His daughter and family I will pray for and his eternal soul as well .

I was so sorry to hear that news.

I never watched his show, because I thought it was just about food, which I'm not really into. Just plain meat and potatoes is good enough for me. Now I'm hearing about the other part of what it was about, his philosophy and how he perceived the world.

I would have been more interested in that aspect of the show had I known about it.

Hopefully, CNN will keep the show on the air for a while...

I both can and can't understand suicide. I once contemplated it many years ago but could not get up the nerve to follow through, maybe because I had small children to care for at the time.

Damn. RIP.

One of my coworkers, who is a huge fan, said that despite being sad over his death, she had a feeling watching his shows that he came across as ‘over it’. Has anyone else noticed that?

He had a heroin problem in the 70's and 80's. Not sure if those demons came back but his death was suicide by hanging. No telling if substance contributed at this point.

Sad, people who seem to "have it all" - rich, famous, accomplished - what goes wrong?
