“We ship our products all over the world — 65 percent of our revenue comes from outside the United States … and the tariffs are hitting us especially hard,” said Reigle, who said his firm has already spent about $150,000 this year to cover the tariffs. All of Regal Ware’s aluminum comes from Canada. “We can’t even buy it in the United States,” Reigle said. “Our competitors, which come from all over the world, aren’t subject to these tariffs. … So I’m now at a 25 percent disadvantage immediately on all those products.”
Sensenbrenner said he has received an “earful” about them from people in his district involved in manufacturing.
“They’re very, very afraid what’s going to happen is that they’re going to be increasingly non-competitive to goods, particularly the ones that come in from China,” he said.
I watched a documentary last night about free trade (from german national tv) there is no such thing as free trade. All industrialized countries use heavy tariffs to protect their industries and subsidize agro all the while preaching to the rest of the world which is mainly poor for free trade. In other worlds, they have forced the rest of the world to embrace free trade while they protect their industries. Besides poor countries, the u.s. has been victim of their own policies. However, they don't care. It is mainly poor people who suffer from this policies.
This has benefited germany the most, then the rest of developed countries, only partly the u.s., at the cost of the rest of the world which have cheap products dumped in their countries, thus their jobs are destroyed.
And people complain that immigrants move to developed countries. The other interesting thing they said is that the great depression, which was followed by ww2 was the direct consequence of national protectionism.
I think there should be a balance, free trade should be a complement to local employment and security. As most things, people support either extreme depending on which side benefits the person most.
Trump derangements suffers cannot understand, but there is no free trade. There are trade negotiations. And the problem is unless its an agricultural product that grow well in a region or its a mineral, it lacks absolute advantage. The lack of an absolute competitive advantage causes a race to the bottom. So places like China just ignore pollution or use slave labor. Let me guess, all those leftists wanting to trade with China like smog now.....
Overall, for both the United States and Wisconsin economies, our forecasts for 2018 suggest a continuation of the economic expansion with slightly stronger growth. Although there is a real chance that growth may slow in 2018, we find relatively little chance of a substantial economic downturn.

CUT IT OUT!!!! That was written before tariffs - but nice try at delusion. You Trumpers - you defend that moron every chance you get. The country could go up in a nuclear cloud - and if Trump said it was OK, you would think it's a great thing.
