I said that the government imports foreigners to vote in our elections. You would probably say they are no longer "foreigners" when they become citizens and gain the right to vote, but that doesn't change the fact that they are foreigners when they come to this country, and it doesn't change the fact that they have a huge influence on our elections.
Anyway, nationally, almost 20 million foreign-born citizens were eligible to vote in the 2016 election.
I probably hate Bush more than you do, but I only recall Obama doing one thing regarding the economy in eight years. That was the stupid "stimulus" boondoggle early on. It wasn't a "bold move", and it was counterproductive.
What are you talking about?
I think if you were/are one of the millions who worked on or heavily used infrastructure improvements from the stim you'd think differently.
In fact, you probably did heavily use the improvements and don't know it.
When the stim was on I took a look at the map and ALL the highway resurfacing, airport runway repair, improvement, bike path extensions and much more were all being done around me.
It was that "infrastructure" that we all crow about today, and yet have done little about since.
Note - in terms of economics it was a steady hand that knew we'd be mortally wounded and slowly nursed us back to at least some kind of health. Dow tripled from the lows. Real Estate that was foreclosed and abandoned was 80% plus reconstituted and resold by the end of his terms. Health care increases were slowed while MANY more people were covered (major part of our economics!)....
You cannot say a "Grand Bargain" wasn't attempted, but after all their rhetoric about trying to get spending under control, the GOP would not go along with saving money. When push came to shove...they balked and so did some Dems.
Remember Simpson-Bowles....?? A serious plan:
"The final plan, released on December 1, 2010 aimed to reduce the federal deficit by nearly $4 trillion, stabilizing the growth of debt held by the public by 2014, reduce debt 60 percent by 2023 and 40 percent by 2035"
The tea party chanted that we needed to balance the budget and pay down the debt - yet the very same people approved of a tax cut recently (when it was NOT needed at all) which borrowed another 1.5 TRILLION and made it so the yearly deficit will be at least a trillion looking forward.
I consider all of the above "economic" in nature. A POTUS is not a dictator...rather they can say how they think it should be. Whether the people follow is another story. Obviously the tea party was a ruse all along.
Obama basically didn't give those people the time of day; and that is one of his many sins (besides being born black I suppose), so now they are going to make up for lost time.
I agree with this, but why should our leaders pander to a bunch of preachers that want the state to force their religion on everyone? They wrap it in patriotism but in reality, it's un-American.
Mark Sanford was a flawed candidate when he won back his House seat in 2013. Before Trumpism took over, people were willing to look the other way on his flaws since he was "good enough." However, what sent him out the door this week was simply that out of the 240ish Republicans in the House, Sanford was in the top 5 of those that voted against Trump's agenda. And honestly, what he said about Trump really wasn't all that bad and was likely truthful.
A few of the highlights:
- Sanford criticized President Donald Trump's 2017 executive order to temporarily curtail Muslim immigration until better screening methods are devised. He stated that "I'm hearing a voice of concern that things are moving from weird to reckless in their view. And that even if you're going to enact this policy, the way in which it was done just seems bizarre."
- Sanford supported Trump's wall
- Sanford requested Congress to urge the President to release his tax returns
I mean, it really wasn't all that bad. Sanford being voted out... really does reinforce what the RNC chair said. Sanford didn't really fully embrace Trump's agenda. And now he's out on his a**.

Funniest part of all this is the way the people who keep losing elections try to pretend Trump has done something wrong. And/or that it's Trumps' fault that people who oppose him keep losing elections.
Actually neither is true.
What's true is that most normal Americans are happy with what Trump is doing, and recognize that his unorthodox methods are the only way to do it. And the people are the ones kicking his opponents out of office.
Donald Trump isn't the one kicking them out. He's merely offering an alternative. And letting the voters decide.
What's happening to this country, is that people are getting sick of previous attempts at government, whether from big-govt socialist Democrats or go-along-to-get-along Republicans. And when they see the results Trump is getting, they decide that he is better for the country and its citizens, than any of the failed groups running against him. And they vote for him and the people who support him; and vote against those who don't.
Democracy. It's a wonderful thing.
To the ones getting turfed out of office, who don't support Trump's agenda, I only ask: Doesn't it suck trying to win an election when you haven't been doing what your constituents want? Gee, that's too bad.
First of all, I'm glad that you found a woman who is in total lockstep with you! Hopefully, there won't come a time when she wants to go to XXX restaurant and you want to go to ZZZ restaurant! I'm sure you'll put her in her place.
Nah. That's being petty. I don't care about where we go to eat. Price location menu doesn't bother me as long as the food is good.

Nah actually, my mind went immediately to the degradation of society, dumbing down and weakening of generations, justifying stupidity and degeneracy with liberal policies to gain a utopia...
Again that blew up in your face too LOL

LOL want better schools, change up the curriculum and focus on quality not quantity. Stop teaching kids how to take tests, start teaching them to apply knowledge and think outside of the box rather than burden with an hour of homework for each subject to make up for the poor quality in the class room. (Psst. I was a middle and high school student once too)
Want better roads? Go to your county or state to get it done.
Want to preserve forests and natural wildlife? Keep cityiots contained to cities and stop buying up land to develop for another HOA...

We've compromised for long enough. Perhaps you didn't grow up in NY state and see just what liberal ideology and policy costs... I did.

Of course I'm not ignorant of history. I'm not the one grandstanding Trump is literally Hitler or literally Stalin. Or a dictator.

Explain how things "blew up in my face". LOL
I grew up in New Jersey, not known for being a red state, and I still live in New Jersey.
I'm not grandstanding and saying the cheeto is hitler, etc. Show me where I ever stated that.
Your rebuttal is very weak. I suggest you not get your own ego involved in political discussions.
I have just one question, since this thread appears to be all about compromise, and how it's a bad thing.
If someone belongs to a political party, yet they abandon their own personal code of ethics about a few thing that deviate from the platform of that party, is that not also a form of compromise?
Neither party is perfect, and both need critics speaking from within to remain healthy.
